Area 5.1 issue

I want to place "Area 5.1" from the list of rewards but it says that i can't because the "building already exists in the city"... problem is, that it doesn't! Could someone tell me what's going on? Is this a glitch or am I overlooking something?

I tried the cheat where you unlock all rewards but that doesn't work either because the game considers it to be in the city already...

Do you have the air-force base built? Area 5.1 and the AFB can't be built at the same time.

well, I did have AFB but when I delete it from the city, Aea 5.1 isn't on the list anymore...  When I plop AFB  back into the city, Area5.1 reappears (greyed out as usual) and saying that I cannot build it because it already exists in the city...

So how do I plop Area 5.1?

You don't want Area 5.1 unless you are into radioactive dumps.  In any case, you have to be going broke to get it legitimately, and I think you have to be in Hard mode as well.

You can also get it through the U-Drive-It missions. That's how I got mine.

The way to have both the 5.1 Secret Area, and the Air Force Base, is to get the 5.1 Area with the U-D-I missions, or the reward cheat. Plop the 5.1 Area, and wait for the game to offer the Air Force Base. If you ever bulldoze the 5.1 Area, you will have to bulldoze the Air Force Base, to be able to plop the 5.1 Area again.

Ever since I got sc4 back in November 2005 I have been offered Area 5.1 twice, no more than that. And I have never earned it with the U Drive It, but thanks to the cheat code it used to be a staple in any profitable city, I would just have a corner of town where I would pile all the undesirable profit-makers. But that was before I got a simoleon mod that didn't affect my expenses, but multiplied my income by about 200x, so I set the taxes for everything except dirty industry to 0.5%. I don't do U Drive It at all really.

Airforce Base and Area 5.1 appear to exclude each other, as mentioned above. Another way to have them both is to build it as soon as it becomes available; use the link in the message, not the menu! If you need to terraform before plopping, do so before you get the offer.

All I know is that using the cheat... yes you can have them both. If it is telling you that you already have it... then it could be possible that you added another custom building or lot that is using the "area 51" properties and therefore is already being used (just not appearing as the regular Area 51).

cool, thanks for the infos... I was wondering if it was through a mission myself like  tungston mentioned but still didn't stumble on it. Do you happen to remember which one? I'm assuming it's a flight mission maybe?..

(i'd rather try it like that before using the cheat)

It is the most complicated of all the UDI missions.  The mission and the required items:

1.  The Steam Train:  Sell Secret Rocket Formula.

freight train station, deluxe police station, and more that 20 rails [tiles]

2.  Crop duster:  Spread Zombie Dust.

Small landing strip, and cemetary

This one is the hardest. and slow to get offered, most of the time

3.  Ice Cream Truck:  ice cream delivery

at least 3 elementary schools.  [make sure you have a loop, because the schools don't always come in order]

There is no order to how you do them.  I always make a loop in the rail, around an industrial zone.  That way if I miss a station, or it starts the mission in a poor place, I can continue.
