The original SimCity, I loved it, how about you?

I was 12 yrs old, it made me conscience of a lot of things.

At that age you are really not taught about how the world works, and I know supply and demand might be something boring for a 12 year old, but I feel it taught me of a lot even though I had to install is on my moms packard bell computer.

Things have changed a lot since 1989, there are a lot of games available, and my wife and I are expecting, so I wish the same kind of game for our daughter to grow up with (after the teething of course, lol).

Just wanted to know what kind of influence Maxis and Will Wright has had on your gaming life through the years.

I never played the original game. I didn't get interested until SC3000 came out. I got turned on to it by my nephews.

I first got Sim City for the Snes when I was 5 or 6... I didn't understand it at all, I just remember clicking on the Boston Nuclear Meltdown scenario because it was pretty cool. After a while though, after a few years, I started to learn how to build in the game... It was much like the original but had much better graphic's (haha, yeah... back in the days when Console graphic's beat PC's) than the PC version.

I remember my first Metropolis that I built when I was 7... I think I just named it Hong Kong or something, but it was awesome. Made me stick to the Sim City franchise... well, untill now... with SimSoc... jeezus, they ruined everything!!

i played the original for a little while but quickly got bored and moved on to SC2000. 2000 had to be my favorite of all time, not because of awsome graphics or anything lol....just so many more options opened up and stuff. i was amazed at how much you could do and what kind of cities you could build. now here we are at Sim City 4, its almost unbelieveable how far the series has come, almost makes me wish for the old days sometimes. of course the series will never progress again because of that huge step down we like to call Sim City Societies.

First Simcity game for me was SC2K... in DOS. That itself is ancient in computer terms.

I have, however, played the original Simcity online. The official SC4 website used to let you do that. Dunno if it still does...

Simcity 1 was like the second game I ever played, but I didn't really understand it... Then I played SC2000 and started to get good at it!

And I still remember when I was excited that SC3K was going to have actual cars in it, not just blue or white rectangles.... anyone else remeber that?

SC4 was new when I got it, about three months after it was released.  This was the vanilla version.  I faithfully upgraded when Rush Hour came out.  As a matter of curiosity, I acquired SC3k, then SC3KU.  I have also played the original SC on the EA site.

Spoiled, I am.  I don't really like the earlier versions.  Just a matter of the devil you know.

I am convinced that I will continue to play SC4 whatever happens to the franchise.  It is a superb time waster, and with all the custom content, why look farther?

I will look at SC:S, but not as a replacement for SC4.

I remember the first Sim City, you almost had to have a Police Department on every corner. Sim City 2000 was great, a friend and me used to build cities for hours

Barker was 12 in 1989, so he was born in 1977. He can buy beer.

I wish SC4 allowed you to set drinking ages for your cities.

I liked the fact that in SC1, hospitals appeared randomly on residential blocks. Another thing i remember was playing in black and white, and not being able to drag power lines. This was all on my Mac SE way back when. We put it on a mac classic and that was when blue yellow and green became my favorite colors!

My first game was Sim City for the PC. I played it on an old IBM with a black and white monitor. Later, I got SC for SNES,which was basically the same, but with slightly updated graphics and in color for me! 4.gif

SC2000 was the first game that I thoroughly enjoyed..... I used to play it for hours on Saturday mornings. 3D terrain was introduced and made for visually interesting cities. SC3K got skipped by me for some reason, but I picked up SC4 after reading a few rave reviews.... it was much harder than I remembered the other games, which I enjoyed. The continuous terrain, clouds, water, and daytime features made it even more visually appealing. I had to play it for at least 2 months before I could even think about creating complex cities like I wanted.

Each subsequent game in the series has been an improvement in terms of complexity, gameplay, and graphics. I had hoped the next game in the series would follow suit, but such is life.
