Disguised Cell Phone Towers

Saw one recently. It looked like a giant pine tree. Which is weird because pine trees werent growing around where I saw it..

Seems like there is a current trend to disguise cell phone towers as something else, often times as some sort of tree.

I found this page the other day that is full of pictures of them

Anyways, for presentation purposes here is a shameless hotlink of one of them:

So, has anyone see these? whats your opinion? Do you think cell towers even need to be dressed up?

Wow! That's cool! I showed my parents and they couldn't even tell what it was. (neither could I when I first saw it) 3.gif

I really hope that is the trend. Those cell phone towers look ugly and take up the beautiful sky.

Three palm trees all together in Grand Traverse County, MI.

Bizarre, because all the foliage is pine or spruce.

Very clever idea if you ask me. It gets rid of that whole cell tower look, but I don't have much of a problem with that look either so it really could go either way.

Yeah, I'v seen one of those, except it had some antenne sticking out of it about mid-way up. And it was in the middle of a Concrete paradise.

I saw one. It was in a a hilly area where there are pine trees but it was maybe atleast 60 or 70 feet taller than the surrounding trees.

Actually, its in the website you linked, here it is.

heh... some of them look so stupid... heh

they dont exactly pick good things to make the towers look like...

but its a start and i like the idea

flame1396: its really not a waste of money if u think of it as city beautification... sure they dont look great now but im sure theyll find more beautiful ways to disguise these hideous towers... they might even find some very practical ways...

wat really is a waste of money is the war in Iraq

These are really cool! In our town, about a half block off the main road (and in a semi-affluent area, I'd like to point out) there is a huge tower like this. It's disguised as a pine tree, and it's MASSIVE. For a long time I thought it was a real tree, it is a great imitation, unlike the first picture. I was surprised to find out it was a tower. I love it.

Some of those trees look so out of place, i wonder if there is a job opening at a cell tower construction company for a botanist. or someone with any common sense at all.

My opinion on this: unless you can make it convincingly look like a tree or whatever, don't bother. If it looks obviously fake, it's worse than just having an antenna tower there. I'd rather look at an antenna tower that looks like an antenna tower than one that tries to look like something else and fails miserably.

    But that's just me.5.gif

Well, if it's so convincing no one notices it...I guess it's cool.

That is, if anyone else even sees it. 2.gif

Well I think that the tower looks better disguised as a tree (even if poorly done) than it would if it was just a big concrete pole sticking out of the ground. I definitely prefer that tower to the ones in Australia, which are basically huge metal frames sticking out of the ground with an antenna on top.
