Monorail vs subway

you plop the starter piece...then you drag el-rail away from it and it converts the el-rail to GLR. i used to use mostly subway and bus with the occasional elevated areas...now i tend to use more GLR. there are some huge improvements to GLR that has come out recently. they created an onslope piece for making overpasses, made it draggable, and there are also some sunken pieces that you can get from a japanese site.

in my opinion i don't like either, but i would much rather subway as i don't have to destroy anything to place it and it is only slightly slower than monorail. But i much rather glr and railways in my city... looks more realistic to me

Subway is expensive but you can gain far more revenues when bug business build above. Monorail is fast......but it's only really good for taking commuters long distance. the stations are too expensive to mass build. Too expensive as in the costs out weight the gains.

One advantage of monorail is that wealthy people seem to like it, whereas they don't seem to like buses and trains. If you're trying to build a city with low road usage then monorail comes in very handy.

Oh yeah, monorail is also better for the environment. It runs on rubber wheels, with electricity. Then again subway is concealed, so it looks better.

I thought monorail wheels were made of steel

Anyway, I like subway more because it has less of an impact on your city.

I wish there was a mod for monorail that could go above the street - the pylons don't take up too much space, but because of the way SC4 models things, it seems like they can't follow the same paths.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any subway systems that run on diesel...
