Game keeps freezing

Recently, I've noticed that right after the 4th song finishes playing in SC4 mayor mode, no matter what I'm doing, the game just freezes!  And when I hit CTL+ALT+DEL to open Windows Task Manager I'll usually be able to click "end program", where of course it'll say "this program is not responding", so I'll click "end now" and eventually land safely back at my desktop.  Just recently however, Windows Task Manager did NOT come up, so I had to take the disk out and restart the computer by turning it off/on, despite the game still "running".  I'll give you guys my computer specs so hopefully someone can help.  Thanks!1.gif

perhaps a scratched disc. i know the game uses the CD to run the music while playing, and if the disc stops, the game usually freezes due to not being able to load. only thing i could think of off the top of my head. best bet is give the disc a good cleaning wiping from the center of the disc out to the edge in strokes with a damp scratch free cloth. see if that works better

Yoshiisland: Are you using your own sound files for the game?

dadyrghluv: I think if you check the Program Files sub folders to Maxis SC4, you will find folders full of mp3 files which are the sound files for the game. Or, at least with a normal install.

Try running the game with the music off & see what happens.

I did use my own sound files for the game. I cleaned the disc and the problem seems to have gone away. If not I'll take BIWDC's advice and see how it goes. If it's the music itself one of the files could be corrupted or something. Oh and the directory for sound files is my computer>:C Drive>program files>maxis>Sim City 4>radio>stations>mayor/region>music. Thanks everyone!

I turned the music off because the problem is recurring and the game runs fine. Do you think there's a corrupted file or something?

Some songs just won't play at all. All I did was copy and paste music from Itunes into the SC4 music folders. It seems the game freezes after I add songs, so I took some off (the ones that weren't playing to begin with). I'll start the game now and see. If it freezes again then I don't know what...

could be a copyright type of thing (I.E starforce). i know alot of music downloaded from music sites will not allow u to run music in other programs due to stringint copyright laws and is why it only works in an ipod, since u cant burn a cd with an ipod. i do not own a ipod, so if thats incorrect plz feel free to correct me, and plz be gentle about it.

Make sure the files you add are mp3 files.  The iTune files I have are not, they have their own format, and I would guess that SC4 won't like them.

Also even if the file is mp3 that still don't mean the game will play

it it also matters how the song was recorded if it was recorded

out of the frequency range the game supports or something like

    that then it won't play.

I only download music in mp3 form. In fact, itunes doesn't seem to play the music itself; it'll play from where the file is. If you delete a song, it'll still show in the itunes playlist, it just can't play. Perhaps I'll try copying directly from where the file is on my computer instead of itunes. I've never had this problem until about 5 days ago. Do you think there's a limit on the number of songs you can place in the SC4 music folders?

I Don't think there is a limit to the amount of songs you can

    have in there.
