hello and welcome to simtropolis!

before i talk about your question, make sure you check out the Omnibus section of this site. it has various SC4 tutorials on different topics. i only say this because there are many, many reasons why a city stops growing. so maybe by checking out some of the tutorials, it might give you ideas on how to start a city.

anyways, like i said before there are lots of reasons why a city stops growing. so it's pretty difficult to give advice on such a general question. does your city have any specific problems? bad traffic? bad pollution? unemployment?

here are some tips i can offer, and i'm sure others will add on too:

- don't build to much too fast... in the early stages of the game it's easy to go broke if you spend too much too soon.

- when you build your transportation networks, always keep future traffic problems in mind. traffic is probably one the biggest causes of city stagnation, and the hardest to fix if you don't plan ahead. so, make sure you keep in mind what forms of mass transit you might want to use. it's especially important to plan ahead if you're planning on using highways or above ground rail because these take up space on the surface of your city.

ummmm... that's all i can think of. make sure you check out the Omnibus (if you haven't already) and maybe post more specific issues you had that caused your city to stop growing.

What size city are you working on? My smallest city squares sit around 20K for awhile then they start climbing again. You have to fill the whole map, have good health care and education, short commutes are always a plus and mass transit seems to help me out with neighboring cities. If you're playing on a larger map and you've filled it up, then you might be zoning too much commercial and industrial and not enough residential.

Well, when I had that problem a long time ago, I found this website, Simtropolis. I downloaded a lot of buldings and I ploped them by where there is no jobs. It worked for me, but you hav to plop the same building that works for that residenital area. (For example, you cant plop a $$$ building when the surrounding residential area is $, you hav to get them to be the same, in this case $$$.)
