I am reading the new games for windows magazine with SCS on it. Ask me some questions!! Cant post the Scans of it due to Copyright laws, but it looks decent

Edit: Building Information

There are 3 building types: Homes (Apartments, Homes), Venues (Commercial centers like shopping centers and bars, and Workplaces such as factories and sweatshops.

Some buildings, such as wall street being like a casino so you can risk your money go gain more, and the Dive bar, that generates high amounts of happiness, have special attributes that represent the six social energies

edit2: Six city energies: Wealth, Industry, Knowledge, Devotion, Creativity, and Obedience.

There values change by what buildings you put down. and your Sims actions change based on these values

A wealth city looks like New York

Industry will look like Detroit

Devotion will be like an Amish community

Obedience will look life the book 1984 has come to life

Creativity will look like a virtual candy land

Social energies are combinable, giving you something like a Amish 1984

There will be modding tools out of the box, and they also hinted at online play.

There will be no advisers no Infrastructure. Only roads. ( no power lines or water grids)

disasters will be back

Every thing is possible, from cultural melting pots, to bizarre societies

The information overlays are back

the look of the roads match the type of city you build.

From the look of the pictures, only one road type, the basic 4 lane road.

No graphs to look at, you can see the effects of things the graphs tell you by seeing them in game

Thank you for the your info and by what you have said , the game is doomed before it has a chance to get its feet wet. This game is NOT a city simulator, going by what you said, it seems its more or less like a sim life with buildings in it. They should have just named this game SimSociety and be done with it all. Even better, could have named it Simdergarden with buildings and let all the 4 yr olds give it a try.

Well, the main thing that I dont like about it is the fact that all main Infrastructure is gone. The fact that there is only one road type is also disappointing. although In the picture there is something road related in the background that looks like a ramp so when you build up hills. Speaking of, It looks like from the pictures that you can only build o flat land, as no pictures on any buildings on hills have been reviled.

There's no indication that Cities Unlimited will be the new SimCity with what is currently available via SC4.  It looks to be a better game graphically, yes, but looks to be the same as SCS and its predecessor in terms of gameplay (social aspects still there, plopping, etc).

I am not trying to single anyone out, but based on the childish remarks of a few people and their own assessment of the suitability of SC:S for 7 year olds (or even younger) I am guessing that SC:S will be a perfect fit for them.

Personally, I believe that SC:S has the potential to be a revolutionary game.  Sure, no one will know for sure until we can actually play it, but if TM can implement the ideas they have come up with effectively, SC:S could be a landmark in the city simulation genre, and I do mean cit simulation rather than city builder.  The elements are there, if only TM can pull it off.

    We shall see!

The problem is this is not Simcity, which is an URBAN SIMULATION, but a city builder. I don't like city builders, I like urban simulations. I just went thru my software I have installed on my computer and what I have sitting in my unused software box. This is what I found:

    On my computer:

    Simcity

    Simcity 2000

    Simcity 3000 Deluxe

    Simcity 4 RH

What's in my unused software box:

    Ceaser 3 & 4

    Pharoh

I have a feeling if I bought SCS, my unused software box would get another title.

    beartooth,

While SC:S does indeed have some of the characteristics of a city builder, I believe this will end up being much more a simulation than a builder.  At least, that is my take on the info we have available right now.

    ccecill,

The OP has the magazine and has invited us to ask questions regarding the article.

Simcity by nature is a city simulator. If that is not the goal of the newest installment, then it should not be named Simcity. njdevi66 pinned the name, which i believe should be SimSocieties.

Since this is not a city builder why not spin this off as a separate franchise? EA could have a city builder (SimCity) and a society simulator (SimSociaties), truth be told I'd be more amicable to buying Society if it was clear that this is not a City builder or the next inline of SimCity games but a separate franchise.

The tread on TM's forums has it right, SimCity is being castrated and killed by TM and EA. Shame on them!
