The program is called MSPaint... or any other picture editing program... Anything that you can take and save a PNG image as a JPG image (which should be the required format; JPG or GIF or similar; PNG does not want to display half the time) would work

obviously, you also have to upload the image 2.gif

No, that wasn't what I was meant. Someone here created a program meant specifically for SimCity 4

um hi... I was thinking of making a CJ but one question that I need to ask

how do you post pictures onto a Cj by not hosting on a different site?

Do I need a program or do I copy paste on the place that I am typing?

Thanks in advance

Hello Bullet413.

From what I understand, you're actually asking two questions: First of all, it is recommended to host your pictures off-site, which means that they have to be uploaded on another website. Simtropolis doesn't support to upload pictures on their server anyway (you could attach them to the post though, but it's not recommended). And secondly,  you can post your pictures so that they show up on this site. I suggest to read the Omnibus: How to make a City Journal. It includes a step-by-step tutorial on how to post pictures.

I hope that helps 4.gif.

I have been lurking a bit in the CJ area and am thinking of starting my own. I was wondering about the 800x600 image rule. I have seen a good number of mosaic pix. Are those OK to do?

Thanks!

If you check the properties of some of the mosaics in the CJ section, you'll notice that each picture actually is 800x600 pixels and therefore meet the site rules. Mosaics often are split into multiple images (example: a 800x1200 mosaic would be split into two 800x600 images) which then are arranged to look like one single image. That actually is sort of a workaround of that site rule and is accepted like this.

Shulmanator, hi!

A suggestion to follow up on Phil's.

When you enter the address of your mosaic pics into the "Image Properties" dialog window...

setimagepropertiesdw9.png

...always fill in the "width," height, and "border" fields.  The border must always be "0" or the mosaic won't come out right.

Good luck!

I do have another question as I start setting up my CJ. I would like to get one of those hotlinked indexes some CJs have to help navigate through my work easier. How does one make that? I am working now on getting enough stuff ready to start posting. This is so cool! :-)

@ Schulmanator: Insert an anchor at the beginning of an update (you'll need to give it a name). You can do that using the 'anchor' icon in the 'Replying to a Message' toolbar. If you want to refer to that particular update, you'll need to copy the URL of the page it is at, e.g.

now add a # followed by the name of the anchor, right after the URL.

@ Gediminas: With Region Census (link) you can take screenshoty of the whole region.

MrCinatit and other people from ST...

I am from Brazil and I am crazy about Sim City 4. I don't like to make buildings (I have no design style, hehehe) but I like, so much, to write stories. I wanna to write a CJ but, and this is my question, I want to make it in Portuguese (Brazilian). Can I write my CJ in Portuguese or I have to write it in English?

Thank you all.

Most of the community (educated guess here) speaks English. You'll probably get more viewership posting in English, but you may write better in Portuguese. What I'd try doing, if I were you, is writting it in both languages in each post - Portuguese first, English translation second.

PS - there HAVE been CJ's to do that

I'm not sure how you get them via hosting through simtropolis, but the most effective way is to use an outside source.

you could go w/ imageshack

I use photobucket

just add www. and .com to either one

PS - to post the images from those sites, you'll need to use the following code:

img] image url [/img

note: the first [ and the last ] were removed to allow the code to be viewed

PPS - some people can't see PNG images here.  JPG/JPEG or GIF recomended
