Wow I do love this CJ, you're one of the lucky ones that can successfully blend real life cities and SC4 together. I was wondering what this hotel was though: http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/4165/pv615jxd2.jpg. I think it might be an apartment, yeah I'm pretty sure it is. Great job on this, hope to see more updates!

There are plenty of bats in these pictures, and it is a very nice region so far. Keep up the good work.

First of all I want to thank you all for your recent support and encouragement!

cleaner475 - It's one of those numerous small mid-western town that still have those solid down to earth values.

dosomthin90210 - I really appreciate all the advice and ideas you all share. That is what it's all about.

granto93 - Thanks. I need to include more streams and ponds. Will work on that.

Krio - Yes, or as the old church lady used to say, "Life is so daily". But if you take the time to look at the pictures, you'll find the city is full of "custom content".

topcliff - Thank you. I plan more little towns though-out the valley.

ilikehotdogsalot - No problem, he's flamed me before. The vast majority of folks here are completely supportive.

AceofSpades - Hey, thanks for stopping by and the nice words.

Interchange - Yes, you're right. But I thought it made a neat hotel.

gshmails - I know, I feel I use quite a bit of custom stuff, my plug-in folder sure is stuffed. LOL

Spencer - Welcome. Good you stopped by.

lilred731 - Glad you are enjoying the journal.

Amerikaner - Nice you stopped by again, and like the region. Thanks.

zzsim - Patience, one is coming, I promise, really!!

    Update6:

OK, lets build some farms. Now I use a few farm mods: JMyers Farms Vol 01 and Rural Variety Pack ver. 1. These and others really add to the variety of farms you'll get. Another mod is the super demand mod that helps this get going in a hurry.

Ive personally found the best way to produce realistic agricultural development, is to first zone a massive area of ag, doesnt matter if you cover up hills and things just make it huge, now go back over it with a light terraforming brush where you want your hills to be. This forces the farms to conform to the topography and automatically dezones them where you raise your hills slightly, next lay down a grid for american and canadian farms, or a bit more funky road network for euro stuff, now cover completely with trees and bing bang bam...... you have a beautiful terrain conforming rural community, this all done without detailed zoning work or preplanned grids or anything.

This is just an update showing a regional view of the area. As you can see there is still a lot of farmland to "plant". I am also planning on extending the mountain range in the upper left corner into the valley a little.

    Replies:

granto93 - There are a number of ways to accomplish this, as joerg's post illustrates. Hope it helps.

joerg - I'm honored by your visit, as I use a number of your creations extensively. Thanks for sharing the tip; I'll try incorporating it in my regions, and thank you especially for your contributions to the game.

Thanks, and thats a pretty impressive region view you have there. Love the journal, cant wait to see more. BTW is that hand terraformed? Parts of it look terraformed in game and parts look imported.

joerg - Good to see you again. The answer is yes. It's a modified region in which the valley floor has been flattened and smoothed. The Northeast corner is the most heavily terraformed. I think the original region was called Harrison.

cleaner475 - I've started incorporating joerg's techneques into it as well. It's making it easier.

penguin007 - I pleased you have found it useful.

jacqulina - Thanks friend. Nice to see you stopping by.

I love that port, where did you get the stuff for those docks and cargo containers, and all that other stuff, like the boxes, and the ship? I think jeron made the seawalls, but I'm not sure.

Nice sea port and region shot rewright 10.gif!  You might want to add some rail access when you expand the port, but other than that everything looks great.  By the way, are you planning on eventually developing the city into a major metropolis, or are you going to keep it as a medium size city surrounded by farmland?  Either way 'm sure it will turn out good.

Edit: I liked the farm tutorial also, very informative.

granto93 - Thanks for the thoughtful words friend. I know I feel the same way about many of the great cj's on this site.

Schulmanator - The neat thing is there still are places like this. Thanks.

Interchange - Most of the stuff comes from the stex, but a few are from other sites. Try this site:

    http://tokitoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/lot_others.htm

zzsim - Yes, a rail line is in the plan. A company wants to build some grain elevators so the line will be needed.

cleaner475 - Thanks for the compliments.

    jacqulina - Thank you friend.

GreekMan - I'm happy you stopped lurking. I plan an airport update soon.

Mikeaut1 - Hey, thanks. The hard part is keeping some proportion to a city/region. In the real world things are somewhat spread out.

I enjoyed the farming tutorial. Your region is rather large and could have several minor major cities if you choose to. Will you show us the airport area and the area north of the southern bay. Thanks and continue this journal.

Amerikaner - Hey, thanks much. Happy when folks enjoy these cj's.

lilred731 - There already are two sizable towns: Sunrise Inlet and Port Lewis, as well as a couple of farming communities. There will be more though including one I mention in this update.I will indeed do an update on the airport, though at this stage it is still a small municiple facility. Thanks and stay tuned.
