Won't take much to be better than societies or city life...

Yeah I just clicked on your link to see the city life building costumization editor, and it's just really nice. Looks way more easier to use than the B.A.T, and all the neat stuff this person was adding to his house wow! If the world edition can do this then maybe City Life 2 will have it as well.

Wow, I think I'm just being a deluded optimist here, along with everyone else, but that game looks pretty sweet.

Does anyone remember what happened to Championship Manager when the new guys took over? The developers jumped ship and made Football Manager King... think we have something similar here? Aight, the circumstances are different, but it's similar to say the least.

But anyway I think in the face of SCS we're all just being overly optimistic, that blog guy is probably capitalising on that... a pretty game is just that; a pretty game. Here's hoping it amounts to something good though.

Please use the Edit button if you would like to include more information but no one has posted after you yet.--hym

I don't care if people think Monte Cristo are trying to steal from Maxis/EA... It is about making a game that ppl want to play, and if EA can't/won't do that, then we buy CL2.

I mean Monte Cristo will not only sell to their buyers of CL1, but also (if they are smart enough to check out ST, SC4D...) almost 200,000 SC4 fans. And probably a lot more... They SHOULD listen to us.

take care,

Hmm this looks a little too good to be true. I mean, damn thats gonna take up a lot of computer space if you made a city like that. Plus I'd like to see some good ole' american cities.

I'll keep my eye out on this one.

I didn't judge Simcity: Societies based on the first screenshot, so I'm a little hesitant to judge City Life 2 on this first screenshot..

However, given the recent release of other Simcity: Societies screenshots that were mostly dissappointing, I have to say that this particular screenshot looks very promising indeed!

Perhaps they are responding to fan worries, perhaps they are trying to 'steal' away Simcity fans and perhaps this is just a promotional shot and the game won't look anything like it in reality.. There are a lot of 'perhapses' and 'what-ifs' at the moment, but right now, this screenshot gave me a lot more of 'Simcity-vibe' than the first SCS screenshot did..

I completely agree with the sentiments that it's funny how quickly dissappointed Simcity fans can switch allegiances, going from a software developer they now no longer trust anymore to a software developer they didn't trust initially..

Anyway, I hope we'll get to see some more screenshots of City Life 2, just to have some more stuff to gaze at and so we can all individually come to an informed decision on which of the games we feel might be more to our liking..

It seems that Monte Cristo, at least, understands the value of a good first impression. EA could learn a thing or two from them.

I'll give this one a look, but I'm not sold on this one yet... just like SCS... however my initial reaction was more positive.quote>

I got as far as the demo for the first City Life, and that was all it took. I found the controls very awkward, and after plopping a couple of neighborhoods, found myself frustrated with the lack of different buildings - and very quickly found myself in a "who cares" mode. But, it sounds like they are at least attempting to make some improvements.

However, it will take a bit to convince me it is better than the first installment - the screenie looks spectacular, but we will see.

Could the rushed look of the SC:S pictures be a respones to rumors that Monty Christo was well into development of CL2 and maybe even planing an anoucement soon....I mean E3 is only like a month or something away...

They had said... after the release of the first... and again after the updated version came out that they had learned alot... and were already working on the follow up?

Maybe EA got a bit conserned about having a bit of competition.....  you know they hate to loose a buck...

just wondering... thats all?quote>

An extremely interesting point - and I thought of something kind of similar to that last night - but with a twist.

What if they had the screenie prepared for a while, but were simply waiting for Tilted to post their screenies? Then, banking on the hope that there would be a disappointing reaction from the community *bang* - they give us this.

Again, I want to see a lot more of this. And, if there is a demo like there was for the first installment, then you know I will be taking a strong look at that.

My first reaction: Wow, that looks like it won't run on my computer!

It looks great, a lot better than the SCS screenshots, but I still want to know more about both games before I decide whether or not I'll buy either one of them.  Gameplay >>>> graphics, though of course graphics are important too.  This one seems more promising than SCS but we don't have enough info to say that for sure...  But CL2 is seeming as though it just might be worth a try.

Wouldn't this make TM up the ante? If anything?

Monte Cristo make CityLife, most of us slag it off as rubbish because of the crappy 3D graphics.

Then EA/TM make CityLife again, but call it Simcity societies

The Monte Cristo come and save us, with decent 3D graphics... now if only it would run on my piece of junk i all a computer ><

After playing with "City Life", some players (included me 2.gif) complain with "not enough building".

With "City Life : Deluxe Edition" : no problem with hundreds more buildings (and landmarks)

This looks very promising. Even if this is just an eyecandy promo render, it probably still shows the direction the game is going. I eagerly await for more news and hope they will be good.

You know you need 3dsMax to make new buildings for City Life.  A program costing thousands of dollars to make custom content for a 30 dollar game seems odd to me.  I hope if they make this thing, they at least let us import old .3ds or .obj models.  If not, then there will be almost no custom content for this game. quote>

If they want people to make content, the game will most probably support the free Gmax. Many games do that.

I think Monte Cristo is fireing back at EA's smart move about SimCity Societies. EA forgets the old SC4 fans and works with the super-popular Sims framchise. Now Monte Cristo saw that oppurtunity and decided that he would try to bring the fans of SimCity to him. To me, Monte Cristo is smart.

Im unfamiliar with the import/export system the game uses

would the blender .3ds export function(with a plugin) be sufficient? or would there be vanishing textures/vertices or other errors?
