Different Angles for Diagonals

Damn. I forgot a title and it erased what I wrote.

Okay. Im trying to create FDR drive around the island of manhattan on a NYC map I downloaded. It isn't for a CJ or anything like that, but its purley for my enjoyment because I want to recreate a scale city of my favorite city, which is NYC.

Anyways I ran into a problem. The stupid game wont allow me to create diagonals at a different angle, or nice curves. If you look at the two pics, one is real life of what FDR Drive looks like, the other is my crappy one. You will surley notice the problem.

Is there a mod or something out there that can fix this problem ? It would be a huge help. Thanks. Sorry if the pics are small..but im to stupid to figure out how to make them BIG !

EDIT: Damn, I cant get them to work....

well, you have a popular idea , many people want to "break free from the grid", so far diagonals can only be built on 45 degree angle, as for good curves, some projects are being made for good curves. It can be very frusturing just having 45 degree angles.

Good luck with your city!

Thanks. If someone could walk me through how to post pictures, I could even show what im trying to create.

It is a major piss-off. I don't think the grid should be there anymore. We should be able to create realistic curving transporation networks (trains/roads/avenues/highways). Maybe keep the grid for zoning, as I do find it useful for that.

Anyways yah. If someone could please help me with the picture posting problem it would be a major help.

Im off to bed. I'll check in tommorrow.

The new NAM includes a wide 90 degree curving road network puzzle peice, as well as a 45 degree version as well.

Hopefully you will understand the problem now that I uploaded the images. Sorry it took so long, but it took like 30 mins before I figure out that instead of typing .jpg that i should use the SAVE FILE AS and select .jpg. D'OH !

Its not the we dont understnd the issue.  The issue is you cannot make roads at different angles and drag them... yet?  It at the moment is not possible.  One day we might figure out a trick with the RULs to allow you to drag them but that trick if it exsits has not been figured out.  So, noone can tell you how to do it cause its not possible.

You might want to try looking into puzzle pieces, but frankly, I dont know if the puzzle pieces would work.  The issue with that is I  dont think they would be able to line up properly in-game.

Your next issue is the fact that highways are 3D models.  3D models dont work in the same fashion, and they are harder to make pieces for.  It just not worth the tim and effort that has to go into it.  I have posted elsewhere on the process and time it takes to make interchanges and why no new interchanges get released.  Puzzle pieces for 3D networks like highways must be created in interchange form.   Lets just say it wont happen any time soon.

No doubt, other angles are restricted. But if there is a custom curve for rails in the nam, why couldn't that method be used for this? We also got the avenue y, but every time I use that, my computer crashes. I think the idea to copy this map in game can work, its just that a custom piece will take a while. This is something the NAM team might no. Other angles then 45, no. Other angles for custom curved puzzle pieces, yes, just very complicated.

Looking at that map made me realise how many names New York borrowed from London :s

Chelsea, Greenwhich, Soho, just in that southern tip :s

Chelsea and Greenwich Village I can't speak for, but "SoHo" comes from "SOuth of HOuston" Street. They shortened that to SoHo, although they obviously had the London neighborhood in mind. So there is a reason for the borrowing. Much of Lower Manhattan IS like London in many ways (lots of subway lines, 3-4 story buildings, extremely expensive apartments/houses/condos, boutique shops, historic buildings, etc).

Oh, and I have something that may be of help.

You are on a roll there, Ardecila! Seriously, you could start your own team for eliminating the standard Maxis networks. Wider "El"s, different angles! I can't wait for what you have in store next! TopCliff

Halfway in between, actually.  It is real 3d like a highway, but it is placed onto a lot.  Really, all it needs are paths and some other work and I could put it into the next NAM.

Unfortunately, I REALLY don't want to make any more pieces than you see there (like interchanges), mainly because I'm working on other stuff.  If y'all can live without exits on the diagonal portions, then I'll do the work to get it out.

I assume you would make it into puzzle pieces to put it into the next NAM?

I don't care about iterchanges yet, I just want the not-quite-so-diagonal highway.
