Hi peeps, great site. 9.gif

I have a couple of small issues,

1) I installed the Network mod (NAD?) and everyone drives on the left hand side of the road, but I installed it and reinstalled it so they drive on the right. What's wrong with this?

2) Is there a mod to make transforming land easier/cheaper when you have a town? I want to make a lake but it costs like $200,000 and it's really messy with those large transforming tools.

3) Can you still get great skyscrapers and stuff without the help of neighbourhoods?

Thanks! 9.gif

1 its nam and you have it set on left hand drive, its in the installer.

2 you could get the sc4 terraformer, although i did not get it to work this time i installed it. it lets you just make terrain without reconcile edges and stuff

3 i got skyscrapers in a large tile without any help from its neighbours, even without using anything from here.

    1) Ah I fixed it, I thought "left hand drive" was left side of the road. 3.gif Oops!

    2) Can I edit the landscape with a city in with that?

    3) How big do the tiles have to be for skyscrapers?

welcome as for question two i terraform even though i have done building, but its very tedious work caus i use the mayor mode tools, but if you zoom right in you can make your lake or the basic shape and finish with the smaller mayor mode tools, just take your time.i suggest having a look at some of the cjs that are on st to get ideas.hope this helps, and concerning money there are cheats on the stex, type in money or cash my friend

it's cheating but, hears a way to do it without having to pay for it.

for access to the trarraforming tools, hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click on the sun icon in the lower left menu. to make the circles smaller, hold CTRL, if that's not small enough zoom in, and the circle will get smaller.

    Several options for your lakes:

As rcash stated, you can get the god-mode terraforming tools back with CTRL-SHIFT-ALT and click the god/sun button. While using those tools, in addition to CTRL & SHIFT to made the effect radius small/large, you can also use SHIFT + 1 ~ 9 to granularly control it; 1 is tiny.

The same SHIFT+1~9 works with mayor-mode tools too. And SHIFT+F1 ~ F9 can effect the tools' strength i.e. how fast it moves the land up/down.

There are also various pond and stream kits. Personally I like pegasus' ones, but there are others and they're all nice. Basically they allow you to build a pond/lake/stream/canal by plopping pieces.

Then there's a "ploppable water" mod, which I've yet to try. Not sure if that one's on the STEX or not, but for sure on SC4Devotion. Unfortunately STEX search seems to hate me at the moment, so I can't look and/or put links to it in here.

    As for the skyscrapers question...

Fact: the largest in-game growable building is 4x4; some custom ones are larger (I don't know if there's a max-possible limit, but 6x6 seems to be the max most people make them anyway... larger than that and it'll be well-highlighted in the readme).

Fact: a building can and will "take over" neighboring parcels to make a larger consolidated lot if necessary. (p.s. the parcels are the little 1x? strips that appear normally when you zone; sometimes they are larger depending on demand; hold CTRL while you zone to suppress the auto-parcel behavior).

Subject of debate: how/why that happens. The broad answer is "based on demand" i.e. if the game decides the best way to satisfy current demand is to rebuild one larger building in place of two (or more) existing buildings. But how it decides that.... let the debates begin. I recall reading the detailed process somewhere, in the Prima guide I think, but alas mine is in hiding somewhere. 8.gif

    Thanks alot guys!

I still however can't get my game so they drive on the RIGHT hand side, they drive on the left like in the UK. I reinstalled the game but no luck? Even with out the transport mod it does it.

I don't understand, so I want my Sims to drive on the RIGHT hand side like in the USA, not the LEFT hand side of the road. So to do that do I set NAM to "Left hand drive version"? Because a left hand drive car, drives on the right side of the road?

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm on my 3rd martini tonight already, but I thought the different regional releases have left- vs right-handed driving hardcoded in the main exe, no? Thus, the option in NAM is purely for compatibility with that aspect, not to actually change it.

i.e. if you have a UK-release of SC4 there's nothing you can do, but be sure to use the left-handed option with NAM so NAM's features match it (e.g. turning lanes, pathfinding - particularly with avenues and highways, etc...). Since ya seem gung-ho to drive on the right side, hopefully I'm dead wrong but...

Well I hope not because all the roads and traffic lights are designed for cars to be on the right-hand side, looks stupid when they stop at a junction with the traffic lights facing the wrong way, lol.

I'll try installing it in a different language, see if it changes it.

Which side of the road you drive on is set in the registry - but its pretty easy to change:

I have come up with a solution for this issue, involving using the Registry Editor. I am not very experienced with programming so I haven't managed to come up with some way of making this easier, but it still works.

Create a folder in your SimCity 4 folder (probably Program Files/SimCity 4/) named English. Copy the SimcityLocale.dat file from the language you wish the game to be in into that folder.

Open the Registry editor (press the start button on your taskbar, select run.. then type regedit )

Navigate to the folder under the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Maxis/SimCity 4/1.0

Double click where it say Language, a window will open up, replace the highlighted number with a 1. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor.

    That should do it.

It has been confirmed that the fix works for SC4 with or without Rush Hour.quote>

That will get you from UK to US English, left to right side driving, etc.

This thread contains enough info to change SC4 to any language and driving style you like (go down 15-odd posts to get to the useful stuff 2.gif )

AFAIK the NAM left/right option is only for installing left/right textures.
