That looks really awesome. Could you post some of the mods you use? I recognize some, but not all.

haljackey, how do you make those off-ramps? I tried to do them like that but the bridge part seems to be too low and raises the ground and messes it all up. what is your secret?^^

Wow, I didn't expect this kind of feedback!  I am glad you liked it!

Anyways PolytAffe, heres the link to the walls: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=sunken%20higway&type=all

On top of that, you need the hole digging lots, the NAM, and if u want asphalt highways, follow this link:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=asphalt%20highway&type=all

And for the ramps, I did a lot of experimenting with it.  You have to have the slope and depth just right.  In the image of the ave interchange I raised the highway a bit because it had to clear the bullet train lines which are at ground level.  The hole digging lots are perfect for the NAM overpasses, but too deep for the ave interchange.

Heres a prime example.  See how the ave interchange is perfectly leveled, but the NAM overpass is significantly raised? You just have to play with it to get it right!

Click here for full resolution (1280x1024 px) Sorry for bad quality, its an old picture.

Anyways, I am no master at sunken highways, but I guess I will post a few more just because of the feedback...

you've posted here before, that is how i saw your highway, but nice work!

    looking forward to your tutorials!40.gifquote>

Well its no tutorial, but you have to get the ground level just right.  The NAM hole digging lots make it a perfect grade for the NAM overpassed, but too low for the Maxis interchanges.  In my post on 05/19/2007 12:24 PM in this thread, it shows a solution to this problem.  You just have to play with the slopes and the interchanges to get them just right!

I hope this answers your questions!  If anyone else can ellaborate that would also be great!

sunkens are difficult... I agree. I do cheat onramps... not Maxis ones. i turn the highway into avenue and make the road intersect

here is a pic of something i did that i like

EDIT: pic wont show, too lazy to change format

Don't know if these will show up. I've used haljackey's ideas to create my

own sunken highways in a new city as my transportation base.

Hope you can see them and hope you like them.

Tickford: not too shabby. Just a little FYI Though on the first image, the intersection in the lower right hand side with the on-ramp is not placed correctly.

I've always had several gripes about sunken highways. The textures are all over the place, the shading is never right, the ramps or textures bleed through each other, you get bumps (or stunt jumps, as I call them) in your overpasses if you happen to mess up and your elevation is over or under 15m, and you can never seem to place the puzzle pieces right the first time. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?
