How do you keep zones from joining

I did a search for an answer but found nothing.  I am terrible at searches so please don't bite my head off if this is somewhere else.  Also I tried to put it in the place I thought is most appropriate.

    Anyway...my question.

I am sure a lot of you have had this problem.  As your city grows your zones decide to join together and regrow into something you didn't want.  Is there a way to keep that from happening other than making the building historical?  That would be a ton of work to click every building as it grows to what you want it to be.  But if that is the only way then whatever.

    I hope that makes sense.

You can't, really. It is a natural progression for the game, as you meet higher and higher requirements. You could always zone what you want, leave an empty area next door, then zone it, as well, once you see growth. However, nothing prevents it from consolidating when the requirements are met.

Personally (and this was someone Else's idea on here so props to them who ever they were) i alternate zones when i don't want things to grow. When i make Row-a-house areas, i will alternate medium and heavy residential. then the row houses grow.

the only problem with that is once you give them water, if the demand is there the medium tend to grow into apartments....i guess that is where the historical option could come into play. I wish there was some sort of modd that would make the re-development junk a lot slower or non existant, unless destroyed or something

Just to add to what Barbarossa said. I use that strategy but I wait for the existing zones to upgrade a couple of times before I place the in-between zones. That way the land values of each zone are different and there is a greater chance they will stay seperated.
