Well, I said I wouldn't, but here is some experiential stuff for everyone.

Vista is really NT6.  Same meat, different gravy.

Nicer interface.  Better account structure, less patronizing.

More secure.  Even paranoid.

SC4 + RH + Updates to 640 build + NAM install without issue.  Runs fine.

gmax, BAT, PM, LE All install fine.

Here is a quick and dirty snap of a quick BAT park it did in about 20 minutes.  Nothing fancy, just testing.

Large Duffy Park

What can one say?  It works on my old box: Athlon 2400+ Geforce 4 Chip set, 1.5GB of memory, 4005MB swap file (the max on Vista is one less than XP)

Hibernate function is much faster and slick.

You can access and modify the boot table in a multiple boot to set the default O/S.  I set mine to XP, but may change.

Other problems have been due to the loose nut holding on to the mouse.

Are you that "loose nut" holding onto your mouse? XD

Glad to hear that stuff works on Vista. I'm waiting until they add soundcard support, stop forcing non-DirectX video drivers to be emulated under DirectX, get rid of the DRM, add Xbox Live crossover stuff... etc.

Vista "wants" me to get new video and sound gear, but the old stuff works, so why should I?  Microshaft must have a deal with the hardware guys as well as the software guys.  What a consortium in restraint of trade.

Vivki:  I just couldn't resist those re-written  Microsoft games.  I may not stay on Vista, but it is an interesting experiment.

hamsterTK:  Just remember that apples have worms.  You'll have to get a copy of the Aspyr game to run native mode or run a (gulp!) Windows emulator.

Couldn't you just use Boot Camp? Sure it's still in beta, but it might be better than running an emulator.

And that's good that SC4 works on Vista. I'm not planning on getting it anytime soon, as I'm waiting on a service pack for Vista to be released first (plus I'm content with XP MCE).

Nice to hear vista's not completely defunct. So is it worth the gold bars?

I really want a mac, but then all my games wouldn't work and we'd need another comp.

Boot Camp is great. A friend of mine just got a Macbook, and he runs Wyndoze on it perfectly (and, by the way, Bootcamp is not an emulator, it actually allows you to run XP natively). I will actually be getting one next month... as for Vista, it's pretty, but nothing you can't do with Windowblinds. Other then that, there's nothing all that great about it. Not to mention of course that it's about 50x more expensive.

My wife agrees with Bookworm's comment about Windowblinds, and I am inclined to agree with that. Frankly, all the overhead and security stuff is driving me away, quickly. I am just being stubborn at the moment.

I've been running Vista for a while now, and SC4 is actually one of the best performing games on it. Any other games I have with fancy 3D tend to have problems (this isn't actually Vista's fault though, it's because my graphics card doesn't have updated drivers). Sadly, that's about where the good news ended for me. After a couple days, I completely ignored the interface niceties. Having to click a popup 1-3 times whenever I try to launch most applications is driving me absolutely batty. I'm tempted to turn off the user level security, but at that point I may as well just install XP and have more memory available (Vista takes up about 600mb as soon as it boots).
