I managed this insane population on a smal city square in about 1 1/2 hours of game play with 2 connecting job citys

Yeah, but half your buildings are dilapidated and there are a bunch of NJZs, so it's really not an effective city. You can get huge numbers of people in a city in practically no time, but if the city isn't performing well, you're better off with smaller numbers to make it more efficient.

Not bad, but you haven't beat my record of 350,000. Very good! You've got it down, but to get it higher, plop some tall commercial buildings if you can get them.

I know, neither was I 9.gif but you will get a larger population with all residential zones and some plopped commercial though.

Also, one tip, you seem to have too many roads, running diagonally taking up too much space. If you want to create a crammed city, then give it more space 2.gif (use Grid-layout)

    take care,

Yeah, gridded layouts are nice, and tax out all R$$ and R$$$, I had a small tile over 1mil doing it that way...it was almost all Hamster tenements, about 8000 sims per 4x4 tile.

(Or you could try force dilapidating R$$$ buildings and probably get way more, some of those hold 15000 sims per building...)

my population is 200,000 for a large city tile have done but unlike you guys mine actually looks like a city. however i am going to take some of the ideas like making an all job city. my populations kinda not growing and not shrinking. i have perfect demand and sliders tho!

well thanx for the "HOLIER THAN THOU" type jab.

please refer to the name of this thread before you start putting down my city.

i could have just as well made this city a paradise if i wanted to however i chose to make this one a ghetto resembling downtown kansas city in the 1970's or chicago in the 80's or detroit in the 90's. in other words, its perfectly like every city on this planet that tries to cram as many people into as small a space as possible; as population goes up' quality of life goes down.

and for anyone who lives in an american downtown type of area, this is what an actual city looks like.

That city's population is about four times what my small city tile record is (87,000), though that has to do with the fact that I wasn't trying to cram as many people into a small city tile as possible, and the thought didn't occur to me until just now to try.

My largest city built on a large tile "New Georgsminde" has currently a population of 252,000. So it might be rather small to what is possible, but i prefer to built my cities in a way that i would like to live there, so i don't have much high rises and ghettos.

My largest city ever built on a small tile had around 140,000 i think... however it looked rather ugly to me...

BUILDING FOR HIGH POPULATIONS DOES MAKE YOUR CITYS RATHER UGLY SO I USE USE REGIONAL PLAY TO AN ADVANTAGE WHEN DOING THIS. I BUILD MY REGION MORE LIKE ONE CITY AND THE SQUARES AS ITS NAIBORHOODS RATHER THAN EACH SQUARE AS AN INDIVIDUAL CITY. IN THAT WAY I CAN LOOK AT A BETTER DETAILED PICTURE OF WHAT I WANT MY CITY TO BE. NAIBORHOOD (A) IS FOR HIGHWEALTH MANSIONS WHILE NAIBORHOOD (B) IS FOR HIGH POPULATION HIGHRISES WHILE NAIBORHOOD © IS MY LOW INCOME GHETTO, ALL OF WHICH IS NESISARY FOR A WELL BALENCED CITY; AND BY BUILDING MY REGION LIKE THIS I CAN HAVE MY UGLY AREAS AND MY PRETTY AREAS.

BUT THE SMALL SQUARE/HIGH POPULATION CITY IN THIS THREAD IS JUST AN EXPERIMENT TO SEE JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE WE CAN CRAM INTO A SMALL SQUARE USING THE IDEAS READERS OF THIS THREAD PREMOTE.

ONE MORE THING. SORRY FOR THE CAPS. IM AT WORK AND IM ALLWAYS DEFAULTED TO CAPS NO MATTER WHAT.

Level out the water and make the avenues roads ( a bit late for that though ) - you could probably fit 10 skyscrapers or more with that.

Yeah I think it was stated pretty clearly that this was a "pack as many ppl into one space" experiment, and not really about the looks!! (*cough* patriots_1228 *cough*)

On a small city tile Iam currently reurbanizing a formersuburb. When Re urbanization started i had 8,000 or so people living there. After 10 years in the game the population jumped from that to 67,000 and still there is much room for urbanization.

Well... It would take forever and a half. As you would have to zone 4x4 and bulldoze all development except hampster tenements (I think there is one more that holds nearly 8k but not sure)

I may do it. If i get really bored.... but with a good road layout you could probably get 1 million into a small square..... ugly though 3.gif

But with the extra cheats dll i could plop them.... that would be cheating.... and they'd abandon... but for like a month they'd have occupants...

i tried plops and the buildings say it has a population but it doesnt really; try it; youll notice that it adds absolutely 0 to you city population and once they are abandoned no one ever moves into them, ever.

i do what you do too, drawzalot, i treat each region like a city, the game is kinda unrealistic in how small the cities are, the largest cities avaibalbe in the game are only 16 square kilometers, but Chicago is 588.3 km

True. But to me easc 16 square KM area is like an area of a city where where the whole reigon is the entire city. Well that's how I see it.

Or you can just have one tiny city in one reigon.

Or you can have each reigon as a town, and many towns.

my highest for a large map was over 1 million but for a small map it was about 305,000. I still don't know how i achieved it. Suddenyl hundreds of skyscrapers were built boosting my population 25,000 in just half a month.

Population levels are only updated once per month, so I don't know how you'd see an increase in half-a-month. But anyway, theoretically, a small city could contain more than 1 million sims. I doubt anyone has actually achieved that, at least not with massive cheating or high-pop BATs.

I am a master on making insane populations... but I actually got tired of doing that because I have never found anyone that may can make insane populations like mine...

What about no cheats or high-pop BATs?

It is possible to have almost 2million in a small map I guess but I could only got a million on this experience:

    http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1316/enought10010000sg.jpg

To prove more than one millon is possible, 5,4 million on a mediun map... what would be 1,350millon on a small map.... but it is possible to have much more...
