I'm live in Paraná, south of Brazil and we have excelent high quality of life too.

Here the economy growing fast, it's wonderfull see the city growing.

But... We have many 3th world troubles.

-Mass Transport do not sufficient for demand

-Public Health not sufficient for all too

-Police care about bandit's, but do not solve social problems, like violence in schools, and little conflicts with civilians.

(here do not like Rio de Janeiro, drug's are big trouble, but not a civic war)

-Street's are in bad quality, the maintenance aren't regular

-Poor Public Education.

The trouble of Brazil, and think Mexico too, are the distribuition of Wealth.

The Government care about Riches, but do not solve old troubles caracteristic of 3th world, like violence, bad Education quality and necessary public transportation.

And the economy grow, but not the development of the nation.

The Quality of life is growing, it's true, and problem's are disappearing slowly, but i'ts not sufficient to see the Nation like a Developed country.

It is my opinion.

( Tell me about English and grammatical errors in this text ,please. )

The thing I don't understand as an American not really familiar with Mexico, is that it really doesn't look that bad compared to other parts of the world.

I want to think that the gang violence is the product of economic and social change and it will burn itself out as things change. As more people join the formal economy the rule of law will become vital and the power structure will change in a positive way.

Corruption doesn't matter, look at China, they have an incredibly corrupt political system yet they are the fastest growing nation on Earth. It's the violence mainly. Consider that MANY Americans base things on fear/media. While I'm not saying that all Americans do, a large majority sure do. Think about all the news reports of gang violence in Mexico. While yes, the media has a part in overplaying it, the "fear" reflex will kick in at this point. How many people would spend millions of dollars for development and factories if they think it will be burned or destroyed by gangs? Not very many. When the Mexican President finally deals with gang violence with education instead of guns (while yes they do play their part) then MAYBE American investors may take notice when reports of crime become less.

The Mexican government was rampant corruption but the United States of America's government is extremely greedy at all levels.

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Ohh ok, i will write what I think:

Mexicans whoi work in Americans industries receive a very BAD salary. They work like slaves, and receive just to pay the food.

The violence i'ts consequence of money focused government, the people are lost, and paralels criminal power grow up the terrorism (for me that is terrorism).

And the US enterprises go to China, the 'workhand' cost less, and 'have no' crime.

In China, wonderfull cities grow up, but many and many people work for receive less than the Mexicans in other places...

Chinese have no freedom like in US or Mexico, and can't go to developed cities.

China have 'elitist' cities, and major part of population are poor. ( I'ts for this reason, the China government are so interventionist)

For me that's no good.

( Sorry about errors in English, not my native language. )

Normally, I just browse the forum here, but seeing that I've been in Mexico for some time and hold a lot of love for that country, I felt compelled to throw in my two cents.

I think a part of the explanation is both the ethnicity and climate in Mexico. Whereas the English colonists found a country that was relatively favourable to them both in terms of a cool climate and a small indiginous population, the Spanish conquistadores stumbled upon a rugged land that was part desert and part thick jungle. Also, this part of the continent already had some more developed indiginous civilisations at the time (With a whole lot more people).

Mixing indigenous and spanish ancestry fueled a history that was characterised by internal conflict of criollos , mestizos and indigenas, and resulted in a caste based society that lasted for a long time and divided wealth according to ancestry. Though this caste system seems to have diminished, the economic division lasted.

Also count in that Mexico is very hot -as well as humid in southern areas- which makes the air feel very heavy at mid day, and you won't be surprised that people there prefer a siesta over working overtime in the office.

Besides, Mexican people prefer to lay back a little and enjoy life at the expense of economic progression. Makes sense to me, actually.

Anyway that is my opinion about the matter, if i got something wrong, please correct me. Laters.

All modern office buildings have central heating and air conditioning. The air does feel heavy, though.

Well, I'm a Mexican citizen, and I'll light a bit more fire.

It is not a simple question, and though we can't give an easy and one-way answer. The main reason of Mexican historical underdevelopment is related to the fact of being a "regional leading country" and a US neighbor as well. It is more convenient for the US government to have a docile, ignorant and corrupted government, nodding at everything they say, than investing on an ally, as they can choose any other country in Latin America for the same purpose. Still, I think the problem, right now, is the sense of loss of the generation born in 70's (the generation of '85 earthquake teenagers) who believe (and somehow they're right) there is no chance to fight against the everyday problems.

Quoting the description of this particular forum... "Discussions of real world applications of SC4 concepts."

Having this thread pop up on the recent post list and having a chance to read through it, it does seem that the discussion has veered far from the intended use of this forum.

Therefore, this thread will be closed...
