Tunnel tool or mod?

I think that the great Maxis failure in both SC4 and Rush Hour was the failure to include a proper tunnel tool.  In other words - we should be able to select underwater tunnels, and we can't, and it's silly that we have to build a mountain in the river (or bay), build the tunnel through the mountain, and then sink the mountain with the terrain tool.  Has some enterprising soul taken it upon him or herself to create what Maxis should already have created?  Is there some trick that I've overlooked?  I would appreciate help.  Thanks in advance!

The only other option to building "tunnels" without raising up the seafloor is to use blahdy's big dig, but that's only for highways (although I suppose you could just use on and off ramps).

Well, they definitely should have, but there are work arounds like the Big Dig, or building a mountain.

i think there should be underground transit at diff depths for diff types. like roads or highways and subway...but you need to be able to turn them.

    I've played around with the tunnel tool and tried several intersection possibilites for underground highway. Im not a fan of Big Dig because basically it's a lot that turns highwaytraffic into a subway traffic. As the game only sees another subwayline, rich people avoid it and busses cant use it. Also a subwayline cant cross it or you'll be having cars congesting ur real subwaylines.

    But yes as I played with the tunnel tool I found it extremely boring that maxis haven't updated the tunnel tool at all since SC2.

    All new ideas for road/avenue/highway tunnels are welcomed from the gameing community. But I dont think another subway-workaround would be that fancied.

    Im suprised there aren't a mod that makes the tunnel tool not be bothered if there is water in the path. But that's also because the terraforming in water is different and in most cases the tunnel should made go in the water not underground the sea/river/lake bead.

    Forgot to add that finding out why two tunnels if crossed in underground cant 'exchange' traffic would help a lot to further resolve the coding of tunnel tool.

    And about the subway-workarounds, SC makes traffic commute different speed in different viechles on different commuting path. Subway workarounds messes all this because subway is faster than highway. Also busses and cars have different commute effect on highways, avenues and roads. Bus in a highway is much quicker than car in the highway.
