The demo for Command & Conquer 3 was released this week, and I had an absolute blast playing it. It includes a tutorial, a GDI campaign mission and a skirmish map. The mission comes complete with ingame movies, and the cast is as impressive as we're used to from C&C.

It includes Billy Dee Williams and Michael Ironside as GDI leaders, while Joseph Kucan is back as NOD leader Kane. Two other familiar faces are Tricia Helfer (NOD) and Grace Park (GDI), who both have roles in Battlestar Galactica.

I will admit that my thought when I first saw the trailers and ingame movies with these two was: Holy crap, are the Cylons going to be the mysterious third race? But ,sadly, this game lacks Cylons.

Another new strategy game is Supreme Commander. It's the spiritual sequel to Total Annihilation. It's very deep and way different than C&C. I've only played it for a very short time so far, but I can tell you right now that it is amazing.

There have to be some people here who've played these. What did you think? Which one would you get; would you pick the nostalgic C&C or the elaborate Supreme Commander?

I'll be downloading the demo during the weekend. The download takes an estimated 5 hours. I saw the CNC 3 gameplay on youtube. They went back to their 'construction yard style' of building (which wasn't the case with Generals)... I guess that's fine although I prefer building structures the way they did in Generals (plop that tunnel network near the enemy's base and...).

I will admit that my thought when I first saw the trailers and ingame movies with these two was: Holy crap, are the Cylons going to be the mysterious third race? But ,sadly, this game lacks Cylons.quote>

Cylons eh? (CALL ADAMA!!!) Well the third race is the Scrin, I believe. They're aliens who have gotten interested with the tiberium too. It's going to be one heck of a conflict.

Supreme Commander is a very large scale game, with hundreds, possibly thousands of units in massive battles. I have played this game, and when you build too much stuff, it gets really choppy and no fun. This is the same when you load a game with many units.

C&C 3 is more of a smaller-scale game, focusing on a few squads blowing up a base rather than with hundreds of tanks killing eachother as in supreme commander. The only thing I have missed in the C&C series is the naval units. The first game had it the gunboats, but thats about it.

***Heres a little something you can do with the demo. You can play as NOD in the skirmish. Hold "N" and click on your side, as you can only play as GDI. Release and you are now NOD. You can also do this for your enemy, holding "G" with the same application, so you can fight GDI. EA is very mad anout this cheat but it works and its a lot of fun playing as NOD in the demo.

I've played both demos and whilst they are different games, I feel that I have alot more control with CnC and it plays very smooth. That's probably because it's a heavily modified version of the Sage engine (which ran Generals, and those battle for middle earth games), and thus runs well on many configurations.

And it's great to watch the FMV (full motion videos) again, especially now that it's in HD.

Here's something to think about while you're in bed:

Aside from what JanYpe said about Tricia Helfer and Grace Park...

In Command and Conquer 3, the NOD intelligence officer is played by Josh Holloway (that's Sawyer from the series 'Lost'). Also, there is a character named Lt. Kirce James who will be used frequently for the player's mission briefings for GDI (played by Jennifer Morrison, known for her role as Camaron in 'House.').

Been playing CNC3 since it was released here in Sweden, same with SupCom.

Both games are very different though, as said earlier. CNC3 really feels futuristic, with the tactics emplyed at so forth, meanwhile SupCom feels like ww2 with futuristic units, as there is more or less a complete lack for ordinary long range missiles, which on the larger strategical plane of play would be quite dominating. Both are nice games though ^__^

Trying to get my CNC3 to work online, but that registration thing wont fire up :/ so i cant register my copy. so ive had to do with playing SP and Network via Hamachi with friends.

After much cursing, and several voodoo incantations, I've finally managed to get the game to work! 9.gif And I must say that this game was worth my money just for the fun of crushing through a base with a mammoth tank. 3.gif The Zone troopers and the new commando come a close second; those jetpacks are totally wicked.
