They don't have to have a new language, but it has evolved considrably. However, latin letters have survived a thousand years now, but the trend is less text and more pictograms (signs, etc.).

It depends on how it is used. If you intended to have it in the interface, I don't like it. Having it on buildings and signs might be good, though.

I like that style for a language it looks like some Cyrillic, Latin, and some other languages together. Maybe in a thousand years our languages will be modified but it probably won't be that extreme. But you probably will not know how things will change in 1000 years. Unless you were immortal 3.gif .

I think it would really depend on what you want to do with it.  Take three examples.

Esperanto was a constructed language that was meant to unify cultures.  It's roughly based on the Romanic languages and it relies heavily on prefixes and suffixes.

Klingonaase was meant to depict an alien culture.  It has a rough basis in Latin and native American languages.  It is highly guttural and relies on unique combinations of consonants.

Simlish (yes I had to go there sooner or later! 9.gif) was meant to convey a variety of emotions w/out sounding repetitive.  It has origins in Ukranian and Tagalong (Phillipines dialect) with a strong emphasis on unique vowel sounds.

All three were specifically meant to sound and write different than English. So the questions would be that if we want a language to be different than English as we know it today then: 1) for what reasons and 2) in what ways to meet those reasons?

    I hope I was understandable.31.gif

I like it. It has a neat stencilish feel to it! 19.gif

I also liked the names of the Aurebesh characters of the Star Wars Galactic Basic alphabet. I may name future Sim royalty after them. 9.gif

SimMars should have more than one language in the game world. Not only Mars Simlish, but English, Simlish, Dansk, Greek, Slovak, Russian, Svenska, Deutsch, Francais, Espanol, Chinese (all types).

Fit as much as you can.

It would be cool to do this language, as we know america was founded some 400-600 years ago, thats half a millenium-ish.

Colour (UK}my home country, is Color in US of A.

And so on, so... English is made of MANY languages.

The real fun with languages is to be creative! 4.gif, wot if you could NAME things how you wanted?

SIMCITY would be cool if you could get symbols, and gibberish letters.

EX; Futurama has its own language, and its a tv show.

So why not make gibberish names on SIM MARS and SIMCITY?

    And write ideas down?

It'll make the game interesting (No?)... 4.gif

All Or most simciy's dont have a made up language

Like Eragon...?, in the back are gibberish names (simcity should have fun languages)

Like nostramdamus (I THINK said), a new religion, new talk and other stuff are predicted.

So why not simcity be the THING?, as it is SO popular?...

    Go SIMCITY!, GO SIMMARS!

    A new world eh?

I would call mayors 'Leader of the colony'. The currrency could be 'rocks'?

How about pods instead of digs?

How about traditional religions for the game? You don't have to have just one.

Why would you have rocks for currency, they're interplanetary settlers, not cavemen.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  Have you read Chaucer?  Or seen the original Beowulf?  Languages are in a constant state of change, and in 500-1000 years, nobody will talk like we are now.  For the sake of my own sanity, I will assume that your comment was facetious.

I would say that English has achieved a stable form within the last few centuries, where although new words are being added and old ones are dying out the fundamentals of the language remain. The reason languages used to change so radically was that they had no dictionary, no official grammar rules, essentially nothing to regulate the language's base form. Nowadays, English has rules behind it, and unless every English-speaking nation on Earth is wiped out, will still be around and recognizable over the following centuries.

I think there would either be a completely new centrally used language, OR one of the languages from today would become the central language, most likely English or Chinese since they are the most widely used languages today, Spanish I believe being the third.
