A new thread, a place to showcase my upcoming projects. As of today, I have released a new map! I am having some major hardware problems at the moment, but I've managed to create a stopgap so I can share with the community!

nhpswissalpsregioncensufg3.jpg

You'll have to look closely at the map to discern the detail involved.

This is a scale map, and it measures 11x11 large tiles (might be too huge for some of the ol' dinosaurs roaming around 17.gif). In any event, it is intended for the serious player, so it will be interesting to see the results of some clever building.

Usually when I make a map, the goal is to convert DEM to SC4M without any loss of data, and in scale. I do this using a series of steps and programs that I will be getting into later with you all.

In this case, a map can only be as good as the data that it's based on. There are 3 types of data available for free:

90m SRTM (average to below average quality)

30m RADARSAT

10m USGS

10m Data (data interleaves 10m apart) is the absolute highest quality, and is only available for the US. 30m data is available for North America. 90m data is based internationally.

This map was created using 90m data. It is not as picture perfect as 30m data, but it is OK for this application.

My next post will detail a little of my next release:

kinbasketlaketw3.jpg

And the next:

map66zf0.jpg

As well as showcase some cool images that I have managed to take in 3D!

I also plan on releasing the map currently being used in the "STEX Tribute City" by the always hardcore Aleking!

So, if you guys wanna check out the map, it's here:

NHP Swiss Alps

See you soon!

Ladies and Gentlemen of Simtropolis. I will be uploading a new map to the STEX shortly. I have teamed up with blade2k5 of NHP to deliver this next project:

NHP Hephaestus by blade2k5 and beskhu3epnm. It is a relatively small map (6 large tiles wide by 5.5 large tiles long). It should be available shortly.

The map is a template of lakes originally completed by blade2k5. I have modified the map to include the Arizona Crater (a much amplified version) and some other terraformed mountains. Everything was done by hand.

Here are some 3D images and miscellaneous map images. I used the CPT Painted Desert Mod.

My latest release here at Simtropolis!!! Mt. McKinley in Alaska. What a beast.

    nhpmtmckinleyrcgv2.jpg

    nhpmtmckinleyoverviewda1.jpg

This is an 8x8 map, and done in 16 bit @ 1:1 scale.

If I would have done the entire Mt.Mckinley massif, it would have been about 16x16 large tiles. This thing is huge! It's the tallest mountain in North America @ 6194m.

There are quite a few buildable spots on this map. I incresed the snow level on my terrain controller (included in upload) so that the avalanche paths are somewhat green, giving players the option to build non-winter cities. Call it global warming, perhaps...

You have to be quite skilled at making tunnels and building on slopes to master this map. I wonder if you could stuff a million people onto here?

Good luck, everybody. Hope you enjoy this project!

The latest in NHP's joint project program:

    nhpmatinendarchg2.jpg

    nhpmatinendaoverviewns6.jpg

8x8 large tiles in size, plenty of flat land, and an intricate hand-built canal system designed for SC4. This is a fantasy map!!

You will notice Manhattan Island in the northwestern region as well...

    Hope everybody enjoys this one!

Here's a bunch of close in shots of the map:

    sc45pa8.jpg

    sc44jr8.jpg

From above, one city tile highlited for perspective. That is one large city tile from the game's region view.

    sc43mi3.jpg

    blade2k5's canal workings!

    sc42qo5.jpg

    some mountain shots

    sc41by9.jpg

I did this because it's tough to see the features of the map from the region census shot. I hope you all enjoy the pictures!! I'm sure 56k folks have had it with this thread, though... sorry!

Love that last map, just love it. I will have some great city growing on this one for sure. I was wondering, is there an easy way to make this region with medium (blue) tiles? Just curious.... Thanks for this wonderful creation.

Thanks guys for the comments, I do appreciate it!

We have a few more projects yet up our sleeves, so keep your eyes open...

mrb - you can change the config file from blue to green, and that will make them all medium tiles. If you want me to get you one, just let me know. I think any shade of green will do... Make sure you have no saved cities on your map though in the meantime.

Take care guys, keep the comments coming! Or not!

Thanks, but now I'm not too sure anymore if I want to change it, since I already started playing. My computer is powerful enough to play large cities, it's only that I am not used to handle these tiles with sims. I think I will wait and see how these sims will act on a large tile with citybuilding.

Thanks again for this great map, I just love it.
