You have a long way to travel Grasshopper!

/end stupid joke

There is no easy way to do those kinds of maps. You need to have a good picture editing program (preferably Photoshop) and you need to master most its functions.

Then you need to scew the perspective of the region shot to get it straight (it's HELL since the angle is in between two degrees!) and render a lot of contrast (to get everything visible) and start working with overlay after overlay of information (yes, you need to draw all the lines by hand if you want to get them right!).

There are no really easy tutorials on map making but check out Three Rivers Region for some tips and tricks and this tutorial for an easy way to make overviews of your region.

Hope that helps!

^There's another way to get the overview.

Go into each city and take a screenshot of the traffic data view window. Then, load up your graphics editor of choice (Something like PSP or Photoshop is best.) Cut the data view overview out of the screens and paste it together like a mosaic in another image file. Once you have all the tiles there, you have an accurate traffic overview of the entire region.

From there, use your imagination to signify where major roads, rails, etc. are located. (Region Census is a lifesaver here...)

Good luck!

If you read through the thread in my signature (I'm assuming you've looked in that thread already) you will see that some of us have taken a stab at explaining techniques. Not full-blown tutorials by any means, but a little bit of explanation.

I pretty much taught myself, but I do have some (pretty basic) knowledge of PhotoShop, which is the program I used. And I used the traffic view maps, like ACEfanatic said.
