I'm thinking about getting a new alienware computer sometime soon. But are they overclockable? Does the bios allow tinkering with the clock speed? Just wondering. Thanks!

they are extremley overclockable, but u need a water cooling system if u wanna get the max out of them. some models come with it, although u will pay extra for it.

most don't need tweaking since its specifically built to withstand the vigors of hard-care gaming. if u are interested in overclocking them, i suggest u call and talk to someone their. they may be able to help u more with this than ordering it from their online site.

Overclock an alienware? I thought some models were actually overclocked by default, you don't really need to do that I think as the machines are so ridiculously power.

Sounds like someone hit the Lotto.I have been looking at Alienware for a long time and I'm very impressed but talk about sticker shock.

I suggest you talk to 1 of there reps about any questions there suppose to have a excellent customer service department.Goodluck

yes, you can tweak them to warp speed, but then you should apply EVERY cooling method possible... dry-ice would be best but... you know...

water cooling, fans in addition, extract the EC from a car...

and talk to the support, they got a hell of a customer support. as long as the guy/girl ain't new to the biz, they can tell you everything... except saturday's lotto results...

Frankly, alienware is grossly overpriced. It isn't very hard to assemble your custom computer that would in fact be equal to or better than the alienware you want at a much cheaper price. but if you REALLY want to buy an alienware, I can't do anything to stop you.

You should also check in your area for liquid Nitrogen suppliers.  Remember, overclocking often leads to overheating, melting, burning, smoke detectors going off, embarrassment with the fire department.

basically, go to the local hospital for liquid nitrogen (don't worry if you freeze part of yourself, just let it thaw out and you'll be fine) but you'll have to buy the correct jug/container for holding liquid nitrogen (and don't cap it if you don't want an explosion)

Agreed, alienware is very overpriced. They do build top of the line systems that look very cool, but still - overpriced. You'll save a lot of money building one yourself.

re-finance your house first to pay for a top-end alienware pc! but seriously, if u can afford to have one by all means get one, they are SICK pc's. try falcon northwest as well, they have some of the fastest pc's right now to date.

oh, if you don't wanna stick with the "overpriced" (have seen much more expensive *peepword* out threre in the pc world that is actually not worth the paper the add was printed on), go for a shuttle pc. they're small, silent, and the highend systems make alienware pretty much wet, and are still affordable and sorta cheaper than alienware

agin, don't buy OEM do you know why? its because they have to make a profit. when you build your own computer, you don't have to make a profit so you get the parts cheaper than going through two middle-men, the part supplier, and the people who put it together and stamp their name on it. if you build your own, you just have to go to a part supplier like newegg or tiger direct.

Building your own system is fan and isn't difficult at all, plus savings could be significant. There is plenty of information on line about how to do it and reviews of components from CPUs to Motherboards, videocards, monitors, cooling systems, etc... Realistically the only problem about it is that if you do it just for yourself and will get say faulty memory or Motherboard (faulty CPUs are practically nonexistent), you would be stuck as it is sometimes difficult to determine what part exactly is not working. And especially if you've bought your components from different places you could have difficulty to find out what exactly is not working and what you have to change.
