So that's what post-hardcore is. I thought post-hardcore was stuff like Fugazi, the Dismemberment Plan, etc...

Not my cup of (figurative) tea...

AS THE RESIDENT MUSIC JUNKIE LET ME CHIME IN HERE:

Post Hardcore is stuff like Fugazi, as pickled pig said. THe modern Emo stuff is NOT hardcore. It is for 14 year olds who think there cool following every single trend MTV tells them to. in 2004 It was cool to be a Wigger or a Mallgoth, Now the new "it" thing is emo.

And to people who think there artsy by listening to this type of music:

You are not an intellectual, you are not sophisticated, If you want to See and Hear real art go to an Avant-Garde exibit and listen to some John Cale.

But hey, I am a very opinionated egotistical jerk, and i love to pass off my opinion as fact. So knowing that, i say, this is my opinion. To each his/her own.

Though not everyone may like this stuff, I happen to enjoy this branch of music!!!! It's very enjoyable to listen to, complex, and energetic.

I shudder at every emo kid that walks by...with their long hair and spikey belts. I just wanna punch them in the face and say "NO. STOP IT."

But, for me, it's hard metal all the way. Blind Gaurdian, or bust!!!

Let them be what they want.

This whole "i want to punch every emo kid i see" attitude is the ignorance that is bringing down this world. Let everyone do whatever they want.

In my opinion, must of those bands I do not like, but hey... if it floats your boat, good for you.

Unfortunately, I'd have to agree completely with that.  I remember last year a lot of people cracked emo person jokes - assuming all emo people cut their wrists and cry all day (not that I'd know... I refuse to give in to midern high school grouping systems) - but I was pretty certain they after they told the jokes, they secretly went home and listened to My Chemical Romance.

    Everyone did.

I think you mean John Cage here.  You're more likely to see him in a museum than John Cale, who, as a member of the Velvet Underground, was avant-garde, but nowhere near the standard of Cage.

the definition really tagged itself to be after the era of Hardcore(which was an in betweener of Rock//punk)...as from the above post about fugazi, I just consider it punk...

We can fight over genres for hours and hate each other over it, but I have to say...just go by your opinions...I have no problem with that

Post-Hardcore to me goes as follows

    Chiodos (100% Post-Hardcore)

Converge (maybe a bit of a stretch)

The Fall of Troy (100% Post-Hardcore)

Heavy Heavy Low Low (100% Post-Hardcore)

Fear Before The March Of Flames (100% Post-Hardcore)

    He Is Legend

    Circa Survive

Saosin (anthony Green era) although the new cd is good

The Sound of Animals Fighting( well the first record )

    Scary Kids Scaring Kids

    Thrice

    Showbread

    At All Cost

    Underoath (I'd consider it)

    The Jonbenet (local houston band)

    Trophy Scars

    The Blood Brothers

    Cool.

I like your taste in music.

The ones more defined as post-hardcore in your list are probably Chiodos (definetely), Fall of Troy, Saosin (I liked Anthony Green, but I guess it's OK they don't scream now),  Fear Before the March of Flames, Scary Kids, Thrice, etc.

As for Blood Brothers...I'd say it's "Other" Though it's a great band.

EDIT: I'd say Brand New is post-hardcore. And Taking Back Sunday is pretty defined as post. They're getting more mainstream now, I hope they don't drift too far.
