Hi all,
Is it possible to make an additional line on the "Jobs and Pop" graph to show how many unemployed people there are in the city?

Unfortunately, I don't think that this would be possible.  The only things that we can change are the sources that the simulation uses to create the graph.  The actual math is done in the executable, which we have no control over.  Maybe someone will be able to overcome this, but I don't think it likely.

So here's a slightly different question:
Would we be able to add the following lines to the graph?

    Total R population ($+$$+$$$)
    Total C population ($+$$+$$$)
    Total I population ($+$$+$$$)

    or

    Total R population ($+$$+$$$)
    Total C+I population ($+$$+$$$)

I believe that it is possible to do this.  I don't know if a line could be added, but one of the current lines should be replaceable with this information.  Unfortunately, this is not my area of expertise, so I couldn't do it personally, yet.  I will try to take a look at it sometime this week, but I can't promise anything.

I would think it should be possible to add a new line for this. I believe it was Tropod who successfully created a mod that adds new lines to the water and trash graphs, showing the amounts imported and exported.

How can I get that trash inport/export mod? That would be nice to have.
I dont think I saw it on the mods section.

yep that's the mod where tropod added the extra lines. Since it was doable on the trash/power/water graphs I think it reasonable to assume it could be done on the jobs and pop graph. Unfortunatly I don't know how to do this either, but it would be nice to have a total pop, and total jobs on the graph.

    Hey Tyeguy,
I just wanted to let you know that I hadn't forgotten about you.  I have collected some of the information I need and started on the mod.  So far I have been able to replace the Average Residential Income graph with a graph that displays Total R Pop, Total C Pop, and Total I Pop.  I replaced this graph rather than adding to the Jobs and Population graph because I didn't want the latter to become too crowded.

I don't know if it is going to be possible, but here are a few things that I am trying to have it do before I call it complete:

    1.  Display the residential population that is extrapolated for neighboring cities
    2.  Display the commercial jobs that are extrapolated for neighboring cities
    3.  Display the industrial jobs that are extrapolated for neighboring cities
    4.  Display the workforce population (I am not sure if this is different than the total population, but I am curious to find out if, and when, it might differ)
    5.  Display the worforce population that is extrapolated for neighboring cities

Again, I am not sure if I can do these.  My first attempt at getting numbers 1 through 3 to display correctly didn't work out quite so well.  I have discovered why, but I am not sure if I will be able to correct it.  If I am actually able to pull it off, I will probably try to make a graph mod that will be a duplication of the current Jobs and Population graph, except that it will display the numbers for the neighbors instead of the city itself. 10.gif The way things are going, though, I might not be able to get it finished until after RH is released.23.gif

    Redlotus,
This sounds great. And also, great choice to replace that Res income graph, it really has no good use. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have come up with. Great stuff, and thanks, in advance!

    Hey Tyeguy,
I have attached the Total RCI population mod.  Unfortunately, I could not get the extrapolated neighbor graphs to work correctly so I have removed them.  Like I mentioned before, this mod will replace the Res Average Income graph with a graph that shows total R population, total C jobs, and total I jobs.

If you have any problems or notice any conflicts, let me know and I'll take a look at it.

How about adding the new lines to the SAME graph? I'd still like to know how wealthy my sims are. *L*

This is a great mod!! Very useful information.

But I agree that it should be in addition to the income. The graph isn't that crowded 1.gif And now that we can turn on and off lines on the graph, it shouldn't be an issue.

    Thanks!

My biggest concern was that there wouldn't be enough room -- not for the graph lines, but for the legend.  I'll see how it works and try to post a new mod tomorrow.

This was actually my original request, to know how many people were unemployed. But I must say that I like the new graph, and I appreciate the work put into it. Here's something though:

I have read that only half the population makes up the workforce. Can we get a graph that shows the workforce population vs. the # of jobs. That way, we can tell when we are nearing the unemployment level, therefore requiring the creation of more jobs.

And again, I love the mod! Great work!

Tyeguy, I don't think it's as simple as "Half the population is the workforce." In SimCity 3000, and presumably in SC4 too, it was the sims in a certain age range that actually worked.

For everyone asking to have the new lines added to the Jobs & Population graph, I gave it a try.  Unfortunately, the total commercial and total industrial labels were too much for this graph to handle and they dropped below the visible area.  In order to keep all of the current graphs and still add the sector totals, I have combined water pollution and air pollution into the Air Pollution graph.  The sector totals are now under the Water Pollution graph.

If anyone has any problems, please let me know.

    Glad you like the mod.

I truly wish that I could have included a workforce vs. total jobs graph.  As I've mentioned before, we have not found a way to do any math on variables and I don't think that the graph-usable variables for workforce have been found.  I have been spending quite a bit of time in the last week trying to find anything that might work, but I haven't been able to come up with anything.  I will be sure to let you know if the situation changes.

Long time since we took a look at this issue, and so I'd like to bring it to the table again. With the knowledge we have now, what prevents us from putting together an unemployment mod? We seem to have the following information:
    a) workforce population (it's in the city halls mod)
    b) number of jobs (I+C)

So what keeps us from being able to put that all on a graph? Ideas, anyone? 10.gif
