I recently made a city and got it to about 30,000 when the pop stopped going up. I noticed my environment bar was in the red and thought that might be it. If I were to demolish all the industry in my city and put all industry in a nearby town instead would that satisfy peoples demands? Also about how long does it take you experts to get a pop to 1mil, real time and game years. Thanks!

try using parks, plaza's and playgrounds etc. the pollution effects the enviroment score but u can try and combat it with these such buildings. if need be, just make a town next to your "bedroom" community and place the industry there, away from your population. making it a specialized city just for indusrty. to get to 1 million+ takes awhile, especially w/o any demand mod or money cheats. depends on how u play and how often. with super demand modd, it would take probably a week or maybe two at the most, with some extensive play times. game year's i have no clue because it vary's greatly. hard to say

To get pollution in the green without moving it into a neighbourtown I tend to interfere the industrial area with embankment and trenches for railways / highways etc where I plant all slopes with trees or PEG's seasonal woods. Don't make industial areas too massive, some smaller / medium sized areas are working fine, too.

Places trees and park lots. Increase your education - the better educated your sims are the more non polluting hight tech industry you will get - in my CJ hightech industry even pushed out dirty industry in rather heavy commuted areas.

Never underestimate the pollution made by traffic itself, try to channel your trafic on some areas that are a bit away from seddlements and fill the spaces with trees.

And, yes, build a dirty neighbourtown - such a dirty polluted town may have its own beauty if you layout it nice and with the same thoughtfulness like your suburbs or your downtown.

You've probably hit your demand cap. Like previously suggested, build parks and stuff. ;-)

if you want to know if you hit your IND demand cap (Res and COM too) use this mod:

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4243

after that you need basicly 3 things to have continue growth with IND

1) shorttest possible freight trips

2) a good MT to get the sims in the city and back out to sourrounding cities quickly

3) high population in the region of the type of sims that will work in the IND sector type your building (Dirty, Manf or HT)

pollution control is  not nessasary for Dirty_IND (it likes it ) Manf_IND needs some but will grow in pollution... HT_IND acts like R$$$ sims and need a lot or it won't grow (HT doesn't even seems to like the pollution it creates itself) ythere are pollution eating lots  and parks on the STEX radical to standard...I found the Small garden park the most economical for pollution control from the original parks

I never actually tried to build a 1million IND only city before...most I was able to get was 250K, but I always mix in CS and IND buildings together, helps with bling bling19.gif

Takes me 200-225 yrs to put 1 mil RES in a med city 10.gif

When I start a city I zone for IND [med density] to help growth. The first to develop will be dirty. After your city grows for a while the polution will cause problems.

My solution is to build a water treatment plant ASAP [monitor the water polution graph]. Then raise the tax rate on Dirty Ind to 10.5%. Leave all other tax rates at the default of 9%. This will discourage further Dirty Ind. Then over a period of time demolish anything with a smokestack. You will usually get Man. Ind to move in. They still pollute, but not as much. I have found that HT IND will not develop much until your education levels are pretty high [>80]. Build an elementary school as soon as you have residents. It will take a few years for the education numbers to rise. Stay away from the availability of large elementary schools until you get to at least 100K population as they are very expensive.

I had mass exodus in one of my cities. When I eliminated most of the polution they moved back almost as fast!

Sims hate garbage and all but $Res stay away from landfills.

My solution is to not build any landfills. I make road connections with all my neighbors ASAP and watch for available neighbor deals to export my garbage. It is usually reasonable. Export just enough to keep the Garbage graph on the decrease. This strategy will allow you to develop more area to a much higher value.

Still another strategy is to rezone your IND areas to $$Com and $$Com. Com zones bring in more $$ per square than IND zones.

I rely on the Desirability Data display to guide me on how to zone. However development may not occur until the RCI demand indicators match [it's all about Supply vs. Demand].

Good Luck!
