Devonshire: Georgehampton – Lady of the Lake

    lakegeorgesealkf4.gif

The seat of the Council of Lake George was often referred to as the “Lady of the Lake” since it is such a picturesque lakeside town. In addition to the stately government buildings overlooking the lake, Georgehampton also hosts Devonia College, the largest institution of higher learning in the colony. Collin Health Center is both an architectural gem as well as a top notch resource for the citizens of the lake area. Georgehampton is the largest of the four villages that comprise the lake district. One additional area, the seaport, is included in its jurisdiction. The town straddles the southern shores of the lake. Being somewhat oblong, residents divide the town into an “east end” and a “west end”. The government buildings are on the west end and the college and health center on the east end.

In this update, we explore the east end of town. This features the college, health center, and a popular hangout at the edge of town. We’ll begin with some wide shots, which will help orient you as you read the rest of the update.

    widefromeastgz3.jpg

From the east, Georgehampton can be seen on the heights overlooking Lake George. The road perpendicular to the two long, parallel roads (running diagonally up the screen) is Georgehampton Court, which separates the east and west ends. The college is nearly in the center of the frame. Just to the right and below the frame is where Georgetown is situated. This town is also directly across the lake from St. George.

    eastend2cr9.jpg
A closer view of the east end, as viewed from the east.

    widefromnorthsr1.jpg

From the north, Georgehampton Court can be seen bisecting the town. The east end is on the left of the frame. Below and to the right of this frame is the road to George’s Crossroads.

    eastendxy2.jpg
A closer view from the north of the east end.

The east end is primarily residential, with a crescent of housing near the college, serving both students and faculty. Some businesses are along the main road, Lake George Promenade, across from the college. Collin Health Center provides excellent medical care and dentistry to area residents, both humanoid and feline. Time to pay a visit to Devonia College’s campus.

    devoniacollege1ev3.jpg

The campus is houses in a large brick Lake Style building. The four story structure has 52 classrooms. The curriculum is broad – covering everything from astronomy to zoology.

    devoniacollege3oj7.jpg

An impressive 795 students are currently enrolled. A recent survey revealed that 16% of students planned on careers as engineers upon graduating, 11% planned to enter the business and finance world, 9% looked to the creative and fine arts, and only 4% are considering education.

    devoniacollege4hj0.jpg

Students would look to the manicured grounds as great places to study. Others would go out the gate into Glenwood Green, a wooded green space which faced the college and surrounding homes.

    devoniacollege5we1.jpg

One famous art student, Shea Holmes, created the signature sculpture installed on the grounds. Entitled “Big Ol’ Wind Chimes”, this piece always drew a crowd of admirers, especially when the wind is blowing. Next door to the campus is the college’s president’s house and administration building.

    devoniacollege2cf6.jpg

Collin Health Center is next door. No wonder biology, medicine, and physiology are such popular courses at the college. The president’s house is seen to the left. Across the street, businesses thrive on schulmonetas from students.

Next door is Collin Health Center. Named for its founder, Collin Feathersword, this facility offers the latest in treatments for all specialties being practiced. With the college next door, this also serves as a medical research facility.

    devoniacollege2cf6.jpg

Just inside the city gates, Collin Health Center offers one of the largest facilities in the nation, and is consistently rated at the highest level by the Healing & Apothecary Guild. Felines give it two claws up for great service.

    collinhealthcenter3zt6.jpg

Strategically placed at the southeastern corner of the lake district, Collin Health Center (often called "CHC") is equidistant from Georgetown and the West End. It is still only a 15 minute horse ride from St. George. Just a bit longer from George’s Crossroads.

In our next update, we will examine the east end in greater detail, exploring the residential areas, lakeside commercial districts, and a popular local hang out.

Replies to non-vote comments. Voters, your choices have been tallied!

Csgcseri You're a man after my own heart! I like history too. They have classes, but not a degree in that field yet. You would need Appalacciano College in Schulmanidad for that.

Bakercity Thanks. Glad you liked the update.

Gshmails 2 claws up! That's a great rating!! Purr, purr, purr...

Leech10 Thanks. The Blitkarni probably are a bit more advanced, but you can't beatthe bedside manner of founder Dr. Collin Feathersword!

    wiggle_narrowweb__300x307,0.jpg

granto93 Thanks! It is old skool! Pun intended, of course!

fledder200 Ginger bread house? No wonder Professor Witchy said she was gonna eat her students up!

Jacqulina Thanks! This town took forever to grow the right buildings!

DioAngel Thanks, SIC! Hungry for chicken? Let's meet at the King for lunch!

Abcvs Thanks for stopping in. We'll count your vote.

sc4portugal Obrigado! Glad you like it!
