Cant a mod sticky this subject?

As a longterm lurker I am extremely thrilled by this. I have one thing to add

*(sub)menu's

And offcourse an extremely big thank you to Buggi. Even if he pulls of just one feat (which he has already done with the .dll) this will add so much to sc4! And also thanks to (the individual(s) at) EA for considering these extensions, it is great to see that a gamemaker/the developers are really listening to the people buying/playing their games.

I agree that this should bb a sticky, although shouldn't this be in one of the modding boards, such as "Modding - Open Discussion"?

I can't wait for custom submenus and new transit networks, as they seem to be the most common requests here 29.gif .

    3 years of experience:

    - Ability to add additional draggable networks (any that we want, as many as we want. Full customization - must be able to allow option to allow buildings to grow along or not)

    - Be able to mod the simcity menus - add new buttons for custom content and new categories

    - Underwater road tunnels & vehicle networks underneath bridges

    - Mixed-use buildings - combine residential & commercial together

    - Create new terrain tools? Integrate things such as tunneling lots into terraform menu

    - Fix bug where ploppable networks crash simcity when hovering over transit-enabled buildings!!!

    more stadiums. domes. arenas. different sports.

    with different sports comes different museums and art-sy stuff.

    i am on the whole sports boat. (airports as well - but all said that)

    a race track (nascar) that doesn't look so blocky.

    i do like the disasters in the entire region idea. and the cities growing while in region mode.

    too bad i can't have a city the size of the entire region. just one HUGE block.

    those were my ignorant ideas. i just play to play.

    Everybody remember that this isn't for things like BATs or lots, or anything like that.  We can make those things now, it's just a matter of spending the time.

    What you should be requesting is things that only the Maxis people can do, or have access to.

    Plus, they're not going to be spending a lot of time to make new things, they'd give us something that they already have that we don't have, or they'll give us access to something in the game that we previously didn't, but they're not going to make another expansion pack some weekend or anything like that.

    I want more weather, rain, blizzard, wind, and you as mayor have to act (or course if your lazy, you can turn diasters off). I would like to see emergency responses to traffic accidents. You don't have to tell them to get there, but at least you see what you are paying for. New types of zone, industrial park and warhouse zone. I would like to see devolpers come to you for permission to build a new skyscrapper or subdivision.

    3-4 lane one lane roads (like in many real downtown areas, with optional parking on each side. Sim can drive AND walk to work, not one or the other), 5-6 lane avenue, 8-12 lane highways, and I want to be able to make my highways look like this...

    If I have highway A w/ 4 lanes, I want to be able to make 1 lane go to highway B, and two lanes go to highway C, and two lanes (one was added before the interchange) continue on highway A.

    If there are 2 2lane roads at an intersection, and the intersection is congested, I want the ability to adjust traffic lights, or make a turn lane longer. I want to choose between 1 left turn lane, and 2 left turn lanes. Is that too much to ask 2.gif

    More submenus for downloaded stuff. That is an absolute must.

    Oh, and some kind of fix that stops the game from crashing every 5 damn minutes.

    How about warring universities within a region who come every fall Saturday to a city, generate traffic, and go home drunk or in tears?

    well to keep this topic going, I have some sensible requests.

    -roads and highways with more lanes

    -Residential ploppables

    -ability to create multi purpose buildings (Res and Com), like in the real world.

    -Road under bridges

    -possibly the ability to create tilesets

    -the problem of placing transit enabled lots next to each other solved.

    -The 3dsmax plugin that maxis used to create its buildings (possible even some of the buildings)

    Though I might have to work with Dirk & co. if we have to re-compile a few thousand stex entries. Moving all the paris buildings (which are fantastic) to their own set would require a crazy amount of work. Worth it, but crazy!quote>

    I did this once for my whole plugins folder, redefining the building styles (seperation between CO and CS, between W2W and non W2W and finally between old-looking and new-looking BATs, including all the Maxis stuff and all mayor quality BAT contributors). Using the tilesets this way allows building with more freedom. Other combinations are thinkable, like mediterranean, arabian, asian, etc.

    I'd do it again (even with more content), if there were

    -  More definable tilesets

    What else to think of (codewise)?

    -  Better (redefinable) UI, especially the menu system

    -  Improved zoning tools, especially seperate CS from CO

    -  Fully functional RCI plops, especially R

    -  Resolve the mentioned water bug aka overlay-texture bug

    -  Networks under bridges

    The following falls under "probably not happening", but just to mention it:

    -  Framework to allow additional networks

    -  Draggable networks => visual path editor, probably exists at Maxis

    -  Useful transit-enabled lots near each other

    And finally:

    -  UNDO Button !

    Well I for one want random disators back! Its not much fun to do it manually and add new disators *cough*riots*cough* without taking away from the menu

    Others

    -Diagonal Bridges!  I like to make bridges and its time to get rid of the grid!  Go for asetchicts (sp?)

    i've looked thru the pages and this is what  I think needs to be changed:

    1. Submenus for sure!!

    2. Diagonal bridges

    3. Multi-level water, which if it's connected flows from high to low

    4. More building styles, asian, old european 

    5. more transportation methods, grl, monorail, HSR all different from each other

    6. multi-level roads/highways/oneway roads/street/avenues, which you can drag like the EL         and mayby the possibility to create your own highway intersection

    7. Bugs fixed, especially the waterbug

    8. modular airport/seaport without the danger of crashing your game, which happens to much

    9. 4 seasons in a year, which will appear automatic, spring, summer, autum, winter, and with good wether condition, more rain in autum and spring, snow in the winter

    10. better region options, better communication between cities, like easier for sims to work in another city, regional effects for airports and seaports, because placing an airport in every city isn't very realistic....

    I've got 2 things Ive always wanted in SimCity,

    A Scrollbar to the right of the menus

    and A mod that gets rid of that little greeen diamond that hovers over you on UDI

    2. Control and have roadworks

    3. Control some bus services

    4. Control and secure contracts for companies biddingf to run your airport

    5. Huge highways

    6. When a highway comes to an end two lanes can go one way and the other lane goes the other etc

    7. Control Toll fares

    could everyone please read the first post before replying.

    We can only get source code to do things, and people here will make stuff. Maxis will not add anything new to the game.

    new building sets for example are out of the question. Well, we could get the ability to make new ones ourselves, but they will not make them for us

    Hi hamsterTK, i'm assuming you are referring to my post. Sorry if i'm wrong. And, yes, I was suggesting making a blank *5th* BAT that each player can put their own buildings in. For example, one player might have 100s of Italian BATs he/she downloaded & decides they'd like to make an italian region, so they'd put those buildings in the 5th BAT set then check that set while leaving the four original sets unchecked.

    Although, shortly after making the post I found there was a mod that let you only use buildings in your plugins folder - this could be a good way around this as well.

    Anyway, sorry for any confusion.

    Poetic... the idea of making an 'end-user building set' is a good one, I think. I'd really like to see /regions/-someregion-/plugins be possible, but expanding the limit of four hard-coded building sets would really be great so I may choose a city-by-city look. Yeah, the STEX has really great content, but SC4's content *management* really leaves much to be desired in an upgrade to SC4.

    Hmmm....

    Submenus (yeah, I know it's already in the top 10, but just in case it slips out...)

    How about seasonal variations in network capacity?

    Then a modder could arrange for rail capacity to be halved during Autumn (in conjunction with one of the seasonal trees mods) - "Leaves on the Line", and capacities in snow-hit areas during Winter to be dramatically reduced (unless someone produces a road gritter mod)...

    And comments on a couple of other suggestions:

    Double-decker bridges do appear to be currently possible (at least where each deck has a different network) - someone's currently experimenting on it.

    UDI into neighbouring cities - why?! It might be nice in theory, but in practice, could you bear to wait 5 minutes whilst city 1 is saved and city 2 loaded before you can continue your journey?

    Roads under bridges - Buggi has already said this is virtually impossible to truly achieve, but search the STEX and you can find a couple of workarounds in progress that use cunningly disguised tunnels.

    Water flow model - I doubt it would be possible to add even a simple water flow model into SC4 without major code changes. It's probably best to think of this in terms of a SC5 wishlist item.

    However, as it is possible to change the water level, it *might* be possible to introduce a 'flood' disaster that affects low-lying ground.

    I think no powerpoles on water can be great. In my cities that have rivers, each time I want to bring power from side to another, I have those ****ing powerpoles on water, and I found them really ugly.

    Summary: No powerpoles on water, just high wires above water

    Did you know(?) - the transit bridges incorproate power conductors! (And for shorter distances - ) So are over-water lots, such as the Seaport and Marina. While these may not be appropriate in all situations - they are a more realistic (for those that haven't long since tossed realism out the window) solution to a portion of this problem.  A (lengthy) Swim-Area extension to a beach - well within current ablities - might be another possible solution.

    I haven't forgotten about you guys! I'm still pressing Maxis all the time for stuff. And there is stuff coming down the pipeline.

    There's a VERY good chance the SaveGame format will be fully released. This was one big request that I'll be happy to pass along quickly!

    The transit hover crash is also being looked at right now, in an attempt to fix it. Now it could be any number of things, to code that needs to be updated, to a missing file that was missed because we just didn't know enough about the system to include it. :-)

    At any rate, I will be pressing for UI information (and tilesets, Paris needs it's own, IMHO). But this means a MASSIVE effort for everyone to update what's on the STEX to include these changes. :-/ We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
