Well, for once I don't think it's bad that your building is boring - many real-life buildings are, and I prefer a well-made boring building over a shiny tower with bad textures any time. 2.gif

Some suggestions for roof junk: Make a roof entrance from that higher section, and try a brownish or greyish gravel texture for the roof with some walkways (metal gratings perhaps?) for maintenance purposes that lead to the a few big HVAC units. Also take a look around the forums, there's a thread called "Post random roof junk here" or something, where users post photos of real-life roof junk. I bet this could be an inspiration.

For the topmost roof section, I'd either add a trap door access, or (which might look cooler) a ladder from the main roof.

In the back of the building, you could add a loading area, where there are no windows, but one or two loading docks for freight trucks, depending on what you want the building to be. A metal staircase leading up from the ground to the roof (maybe passing by a rear emergency exit on the 2nd floor) would also add something more.

Some satellite dishes and small antennas can never hurt, and what about some kind of window blinds, or at least the mounting system for them? Check this pic for an idea of what I'm getting at: http://www.rosskamp.de/Sonnenschutz-Dateien/jalousien.jpg

With all or most of this stuff added and good textures applied (do check gascooker's texturing tutorial and 6459978's Toronto BATs thread on page 12 for essential tutorials!), you should have a bland suburban office building that's so full of interesting details that it will be a highly entertaining boring building! 2.gif

I hope this helps a bit... 4.gif

I agree about the textures...that's what makes a BAT. Also, the model seems to have succumbed to the pseudo-3D effect of SC4, in that it looks squashed vertically...the trick I learned is to increase the height of the model, without altering the width or depth...it may look odd in BAT but it looks correct in-game. Another trick I learned about scale is to use the LE and drop a draft render in, with a person prop (like Simgoobers people). If the doors look too big, scale down the model in BAT. Numbers are fine, but the best thing is always a test.

All in all, an excellent start.  What did you have in mind for it?

Maybe a flashy entrance would be nice... even somthing simply like a small overhanging ledge or a sign. Also, you want to consider adding emergency fire exit doors around the building in a few places (maybe at the far ends of the langest part?). Anyways... good start! All the other feedback I have has already been said. Show us pics when you texture it. 4.gif

T wrecks gave wonderful advice and he could not be more right

that many real life buildings aren't the most ground breaking and

interesting in design. Your model is off to a great start with some

nice textures, a little work and nice lot this will be something i will

use in my cities for sure, Alek

T Wrecks - Those are some really great ideas on the roof junk, the ladder sounds like a really good idea and thanks for that thread ill go look for it!

callagrafx - It did look a little squashed, and I was hoping to make it an office as it loosely resembles offices in my area.

    jacqulina - Thank!

Skyfire2275 - That is where I am having the most of troubles the front door, all try an overhang and see how it comes out.

aleking - Thank you!! I'm still learning textures though so i dont know if it will be the greatest...but i'll try 4.gif

Hey my friend. Welcome to the brave new world of BATTING. It's intimidating at first but well worth it if you stick with it..

Your building is a very nice base model, nothing to complain about. As has been said you might consider stairs leading from one roof to the other and perhaps a set of alley stairs from the roof to the ground. I have a set I could send your way once you get to the polishing stages of your creation..

Nice start my friend. I'll be keeping an eye out for it..44.gif
