City erased - HELP PLEASE

The horror! A friend came over and I was showing him my biggest city (1.5 mil) in my region. He was exploring the city and he accidentally pressed the delete city button (the explosion box in God mode.) Since my computer is slow and the city is big, this froze the game. When he brought it to my attention, I quickly rebooted the computer in hopes that it didn't recognize the command. Unfortunately, when I turned it back on, the city was gone!!!! I've been working on this region for years and this city was my crowning achievement and took over a year to create. I can't believe that it's just gone. Is there ANY way to recover it? If anyone has any advice/info, please please please help!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

If you have XP you can use System Restore and roll back time for your computer.

To Chicken: Even if it had save the city I think it will still work because it rolls back the whole hard drive.

Menotyou, thanks for your advice.  I appreciate it.   It, unfortunately, didn't work.  Oh well, it's just a game.  I think it's a sign that I need to stop playing.  Thanks again.

No, System Restore DOES NOT restore the entire hard drive. On large hard drives, this would cause inefficient use of Restore Points. System Restore will only back up settings, the registry, any files in Windows and System32 folders, and sometimes things in your MyDocs folder. However, there is no guarantee that the MyDocs folder will be restored.

Well, it is too bad, but don't stop playing.  Just take a backup every week or so.  If you don't have a CD or DVD burner, they are really not all that expensive.  The you just copy your entire Simcity 4 directory to the off-line media.  If you use an RW, you can use it again, and again.

Thanks guys for all your support. I found an old file of the city and put it in the regions folder. I am playing an older version of the city, but that is way better than nothing at all. I will take your advice about backing up all the files. Thanks again!!!

I'm glad you're able to play again with an older version.

One thing I've noticed when the game crashes, the city appears to be erased in region mode (blank square), but when i load it, the city is still there in tact.

If I load the city and then save it, the region mode view is restored and I'm good to go.

It may be too late to try that now however.

    Good Luck.
