Double Whammy for Australia

It is coming through the wires as I post this, V8 Racing Legend Peter Brock has been killed in a crash in Western Australia. Sources are saying his car hit a tree while rallying/racing in WA. The 61 year old had won over 7 V8 Championships in Australia and the news of his death will hit racing fans hard in Australia and New Zealand

This comes not long after the tragic marine accident that killed Steve Irwin

This is a double blow to Australia as a whole with two (very different) but very well respected celebrities coming to tragic ends - at least while in the fields they loved.

Wishes goes out to families in both saga's and hopefully we won't lose another celebrity soon

I just heard too.  As an Aussie it's a sad, sad week indeed.  Only the good die young.

Quite sad. It's just like that popular saying "why do bad things happen to good people?" It's just something that can never be answered

Yeah, I heard it on the radio coming home today. Brock was known as Peter Perfect, 'cause he made so few mistakes in his driving, so I'll bet they'll have a close look at what happened when he crashed. The co-driver got out alive though, he's in hospital right now.

I just cannot get around the fact that now two famous aussies have died within 5 days of each other. It is just terrible. Peter Brock was Australia's finest race driver winning 9 Bathurst 1000 races. This has been the saddest period for Australia since the Bali Bombings. Unfortunately because of this, I am now preparing for a third famous aussie death for next week. I hope it doesn't happen but you just don't know. RIP Perer Brock.

It is a very sad week for Australia. Losing two very well respected icons within 5 days. Brock was a motorsport legend winning, as lakeyboy said, A record 9 wins at Barthurst. Rest In Peace Peter Brock.

I don't think the death of 2 'famous' people can compare to the slaughter of 88 Australians. Peter Brock and Steve Irwin both knew the risks, unlike the innocent people in Bali.

well bad things happen to good people only because we notice the bad things happening...i'm sure the bad people get their fair share of bad things happening to them, its only that we percieve what is bad for the bad guy as good for us.

Lakeboy, don't wait for the 3rd, as it's already happened, Colin Thiele (I'm sure I've misspelt his last name) died on Monday. He was the author of Storm Boy and a very well known australian artist

Whilst death is always a tragedy, particularly for the friends and family, it's great to see that both Steve and Brocky went out doing what they love.

Whilst not taking any respect away from the Bali bombings, it is human nature to feel for those we are familiar with. Honestly, the death of these guys shocked me far more than 88 strangers.

I'm sorry...it's just human nature.

Actually forget 88...what about the 250,000 in Tsunami? Eh....it's just a numbers game with some people. 88 piss pots on a cheap holiday in Bali or 2 great people that acutally touched hundreds of lives? (if not thousands....)

Yeah, yeah...i know...every death is tragic.
