Lurker no more....

Diaz, are those 2 cities right next to each other, so you have a total res city and a total co city? I've got to try that. BTW, all my cities suck so I'm not posting any of mine 3.gif

Link you finally figured out how to upload pics i would also like to say nice pics everyone i wish i could make a city that good my biggest city is 100,000 people without cheating

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

yes they are next to each other.. i, 95% of the time, play "regional play" which is playing one full city of residential.. one full city of commercials..one full city of industrial.. etc..etc.. i find it works alot alot! better.. but mixing the two is also good.. i just like playing medium maps more and i find playing medium maps and mixing my zones doesnt give me to many skyscrapers..because when you play regional play.. the demand gets exported out 120% into the other city..thus givin you more demand!.

I see, and I am currently trying the regional play and it's working wonders. I've even got my commute time down to 10 in the res, which is something I've been trying to do for so long, but failed so many times 1.gif Finally, some cities I am proud of 3.gif

Also, are you using one of those mods for pathfinding? I'm usually the Perfect Realistic Commute one and it seems to be working good.

Hey thanx for the feedback =)  I figured that if everyone had cities stuffed with skyscrapers then SimCity wouldn't be so fun anymore.  Not that I don't like skyscrapers...but I never get any beyond a Brink Real Estate so haha, I guess I settled for cozy cities =P  BTW Link, what are all those rings in that screenshot?  You've tried growing that city already?

I don't know if this is my best city, but Omni, a suburb of Miles, is one of my most picturesque medium cities.

This is the main city in a large region known as Terra. This city is named Fire Island, named after the fact that when the city was originally founded the island was razed by fire to clear for development.

This first shot shows Downtown, founded around the old harbour. The oldest building, The Harbour House, still stands at Harbour Yard, though it no longer serves it's original function as a clearing house for goods brought in to the harbour. Other landmarks include the Yard Exchange, the Yard Exchange Tower, and the Banco Cascadia, the tallest building in Terra.
    FireIsland01.jpg

At the other end of Fire Island is The Shanks, an area of middle and lower income housing. Nearly a fifth of the city's 300,000 people live in the Shanks.
    FireIsland02.jpg

And an overview of the city, which still has plenty of room to grow.

I strive for the utmost realism in designing my cities. Good design should be coupled with a sense of aestetics. A city should not only be funtion, but should look good too. A good looking city is a real looking city.

You know, looking at kodlovag's and how_deep's cities really makes me kinda jealous.3.gif
My main city is 916 years old and still only has one measly Pedriana, two Ongs, two Byalls and a McCarthy.:blackeye:]
I've been slaving away at that city yet, within two hundred years, their cities (kodlovag, how_deep)are literally filled with stage 8's. It's as though I'm cursed 2.gif
    Could someone help me please??
    Thanks9.gif

This is Fairview, not my largest city (pop. about 10K) but my favourite none the less.

    First the aerial shot:

Finally, my favourite neighbourhood, just north of downtown...

I've tried to make this city as natural and realistic as possible.  It even turns a profit.  It's pretty much self-sufficient at the moment, except garbage which is exported to Sherwood Park next door.  Tell me what you think...

I know that my city is nowhere near as good as everyone else's that has posted here, but the topic is none the less "Send Pics of Best City". I just got over 100,000 sims a few minutes ago, which is a first for me. I haven't been very successful at making high population cities so this is a big accomplishment for me. 9.gif

On a side note, if you look at the top right of the city you'll notice two dark brown, square, and somewhat shorter high rises. I've never gotten those before. The building is called Project Bootstrap and is home to over 6000 sims! Both of them were built at the same time so my population rose over 12000 when they were completed!

    Here's my capital city: Dewulfia.
It has more than 800 000 commercial jobs and is now 814 years old (this picture is from arround 600 years)
More screenshots are in the 'my city journals' 'Dewulfia an 800 000....' forum. This picture is before changes with rush hour.

Here's a pic of my most populous city, but not necessarily my best, as I think that "best" does not mean population necessarily.  At any rate, here is Fulham, which has ~370.000 sims living there.

Here's a picture of my two "best" cities in my primary region.  First for scale (and to understand why I've had no time to make these cities large), here's an overview of the region thus far.  (Only about 40% of the region has been developed)
    region.jpg
Largely a flat region with some meandering rivers and a big estuary to the north, and the coast.  About 139,000 Sims here.  I'm more concerned right now with getting a big farm base, then expanding as in real life.  Notice there are no highways so far, but I've got a few inter-regional ones in the planning stages.

Now for the cities - The largest, at population 18,305, Hamilton -
    hamilton.jpg
The big artery running along the perimeter of the downtown and then diving into the industrial area is the Hamilton Bypass, a future spur expressway on the inter-regional highway system.  The median changed from grass to dirt once I extended it into the farms to the south, apparently the same avenue can't have multiple medians!!  I kind of like the dirt look though...makes it look like new construction.

And coming in at [very close] second, at population 18,302, Kensington -

    kensington.jpg
Same thing here, notice another future spur route.  This one carries a load of traffic between the residential areas and the industrial off to the right.  It was recently upgraded from a 2 lane expressway to an avenue (once the Kensington Dept. of Public Works realized these types of roads existed on Sept. 23rd!) , and now I'm already looking into making it a highway except for at the intersections (not ready to fit the interchanges in yet!).  Also note my "diagonal" street in the center!  Reminds me of a flat Lombard St!  It runs parallel to the old railroad line which once cut diagonally from the top left, it was recently moved out past the bottom of this picture to facilitate more housing and greenspace.

In case you can't tell, I design roads in real life and it's my livlihood in this game.1.gif

I have linked to these images because 1. they're not in the right format 2. They're bigger than the maximum file size and 3. They're going to be used in my website at a later point anyway...

The town shown in those pics has a population of only about 10,000 and this is only the town centre shown.

It is part of a region with about 19,000 in residential population, and has the slightly odd name of Reische Harbour (there are a few other slightly odd names in the region)

Here's a quick night shot of my regional commercial center under construction: Aurora Island. Well, part of Aurora Island anyways 2.gif. I've been busy building up the surrounding areas in an attempt to spike my commercial demand, so I don't have a whole lot of offices yet (though I do have a nice little cluster of residential hi-rises in the bottom left corner. Res population is around 100k, Commercial is something like 160k 1.gif). I think it'll look nice with a little more time. Traffic is gonna be a problem though. Always has been in this city. 14.gif

    I wanna know how you:

    A) Find the time to build something like that
    B) Deal with the stupid amounts of traffic skyscrapers always bring
    and
    C) Where the heck you actually find enough Co$$$ demand to get them to build all that!
