    Welcome...

GLR is functional too, not what we call as 'eye-candy'. The subway is less space-consuming as they go underground. Start with the underground, and when you are confident, move up to elevated rail. They are mostly for less dense areas, but it can be built anywhere. You can connect it too.

Subway is more expensive to build and maintain, so EL rail is usually a smarter choice unless you're going through high density downtown areas.

I find that for realism, I always build a combo of ELR, GLR, and a very small subway in the areas unreachable by the others. I always build more realistic GLR and ELR, because it's harder to build in developed areas.

Guys, he was talking about SUBWAY and EL-RAIL!

They're basically the same thing, but El-Rail has certain attributes that subways do not. For example, El-Rail is U-Drive able and has a few missions for unlocking things. Passengers also tend to be willing to ride El-Rail for longer distances than they want to ride subway. Subway and El-Rail have different capacities, and speeds as well, I think.

Other than those factors, El-Rail is just a fancier version of the subway, used in places where you have room or in places where the subway can't go (making a bridge, for example, which a subway can't do).
