Fortunately my school doesn't have such unabased displays of favouritism...

But, the other high school in town does. Go figure.

My high school does have the positions of 'Head Boy', 'Head Girl', 'Secretary', and 'Treasurer' - positions that are given to Students after a vote by the entire student body.

I don't see how it's favouritism... We put ourselves forward to be a Prefect, everyone gets the chance to be one. If you've had bad behaviour, then the teachers can stop you from becoming one, but only REALLY bad behaviour...

Heh, that blazer looks like the jacket Patrick McGoohan wore in "The Prisoner" you should write a "6" on it and shout "im not a number, im a free man" during youre lunch period!

When i was an extange student to London (from South Philadelphia High) in 1962-64, there were prefects in the school i went to on the East End. of course, i was a Mod back than, so me and my unruly friends beat up the prefects, and threw them into the river thames and in dumpsters. but that was in my past life.

    back to reality.......

If there were "prefects" or anykind of Student policing in my school, the "student officers" would be my enemy, because all they are is one more method of Government (or private) school keeping us in line, and being good little slaves, so we wouldent question the order, so we would accecpt a future of menial corporate sharecropping.

Anykind of student snitch networks, weither they be Prefects or Saftey Patrols, should be abolished, because its fear that they use to keep the status quo. its a master slave relationship. students should not fear their educators, they should learn from them.

Um . . . Term?  Last I checked, Safety Patrols were 11 and 12 year old kids whose job was making sure the 6 year olds were safe when they were crossing the street.   It's hardly a master slave relationship.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I just ran to the school library, whenever I had the chance. High school was a big steaming pile of pre fossilized coprolite, as far as I am concerned.

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

Your mistake is trying to use logic with my cousin. That won't work. Because he's insane, like me.3.gif

At my school the positions of prefect, senior prefect, head boy/girl, deputy head boy/girl is open to anyone in year 11, the year I am entering now. Who gets these jobs is up to the teachers.

Before term ended for the summer some chosen year 10, going into year 11, people got the prefects job and started doing it, and I was not one of them. I have never had a response on why I was not chosen and a lot of people I know, including teachers are confused about it. In response to that I have have now been told more prefects will be hired when next year starts.

Some of the choices of prefect at my school I did at first find worrying, though prefects have no power and are only supposed to keep order and be the teachers eyes and ears, but I have already noticed that those eyes and ears are very venerable to bribery.
