We can give you a tutorial on how to create a good city that is properly made with few of these problems, but I sadely say that we cannot give you an exact layout fo it would be almost impossible for you to follow if as your city progresses.

I hate buses as well, but I think you need to be a bit more specific about your design. Remember that the sims dont act like people, they take the shortest route, even if a faster one is right near by, so you may have to make dead end roads or somthing for them to take faster options (highway, mass tran, trains, etc)

Although you hate busses, is better for placing early in the game, whatsoever. Is not logical for placing a rapid transit or a subway in a town of 13000 people. You have to go to Omnibus.lol

All I can suggest is a grid system where you upgrade to two-way and one-way roads as your city grows with one or two main highways.  Perhaps zoning a patchwork of residential and commercial may help, but it really depends on what you want your city to be.  I don't think there is a perfect city design that will give you no commute problems, for that's a challenge of the game.

I just realized you might be against the busses because of the bus stations disrupting your buildings? If this is the case, try the road top mass transit mod on stex this puts them on the roads themselves rather than occupying useful land.

You might want to check this topic https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=81141&enterthread=y might be helpful. I'm no expert on the easing of commute times but if your trying to do it without mods you just need patients and time. Back of fro, from commute times to adjusting roads and public transportation (this sometimes mean destroying what you thought was such a perfect neighborhood). It's doubtful you'll be able to avoid using buses, but  you could try using subways, it's the most unobtrusive and carries more than buses.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

buses and trains are supreme. actually i never use subways at all because I find they get far too congested and they eliminate road usage which slows CO and CS demand.

Um, I think he means like a starter town, but I don't think we have that sort of thing. In theory I could give you one of my undeveloped transit only squares....
