Private boat transport

Okay I just had this idea.
In many parts of the world, people who live along the coast or on Islands use their own boats/yachts in order to get to work. This is something that simcity is missing. So, I thought, what if we take a marina (Goldiva's, for example) and transit-enable it for ferry transport. Suddely, people can ride their boats to work.
What do you think?

The problem is, I don't really know if i can do this myself, seeing how my BATing skills are non-existent, i don't know much about modding, and for some strange reason, the Lot editor has decided not to work. I reckon it wouldn't be too hard though.

EDIT: I don't know if people are getting the right idea here. All i'm trying to do is to mod, for example, a marina, so that it also works as a ferry-port. By doing this, you can populate smaller islands, without putting in big, obnoxious ferry ports.

None of the SC4 functioning boats have a direct work capability (nor do the buildings have the ability to receive boats to work) All are either just props (which can be made to look very nice with a bit of creativity) or are replacements for the FERRY. At least none that I have ever heard of.

Well you could change the ferry to be able to take people directly to work. It would only work for buildings right on the shoreline though. And I mean right on the shoreline, but it would allow an oil rig or anything out in the water to have jobs.
