Question...Going to download all dependency packages

I am thinking of downloading all the dependency packages from this site, so that I can easily download any building or lot without worrying about making sure I have the right dependency packages.

Any idea how large all 7 pages of the dependency area is on this site?

I have a computer that can accomodate up to 4GB of RAM. I will probably only upgrade to 3GB.

I also will probably download all this on a flash drive somewhere other than my home b/c I only have dialup.

My question is if any of you think it will be possible to do this all on 1 big flash drive? I also am planning on downloading some mods as well. I am looking at buying a 1 or 2gb flash drive. I only have a 256mb flash drive drive right now

My comp specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ processor

200gb Hard Drive

up to 4GB DDR RAM

X800XL 256mb Video card

I am planning on being able to create quite the cutomizable region.

Diverse mix of farms, industry, scenery, etc. I'll probably plop most of my stuff except for residential, farming and some commercial areas.

Thanks!

Here is a little trick to save time and maybe space. After downloading "Read" the Read Me that comes with the Lot.
BSC/CSX have written most of there Read Me files very well with links to Props needed.Remember it is very important to "Read" to avoid headaches and asking questions that are covered in the Read Me.Goodluck

Radiodude, can't answer your question specifically, but I have most of the BSC custom content, including the farms, nearly all of Simgoober's stuff, a lot of SFBT residentials and various other creators, and I estimate the props/textures files use about 250-300 MB (I think that may be an overestimation) -- my entire plugins folder is under 1-GB

FYI, RAM has nothing to do with the amount of hard disk space -- a 200GB hard drive, however, should be plenty big for whatever you want to download from here.

You may have to make multiple trips with your flash drive as you indicated it was only 256-MB. Otherwise, you can always buy a larger one (they're always handy to have for other things, anyway).

Hope this information is helpful to you.

edit:  I noticed BB mentioned reading the readmes for all the prop links -- which is always a good idea.  However, if you are downloading *all* the props and whatnot for BSC/CSX, be VERY CAREFUL when installing everything.

I recommend making note of the upload dates of everything you download and install everything in reverse chronological order (oldest first).  When you get to the mega prop pack installation, make sure you read the readme BEFORE installing, because you'll have to delete some of the older props that were consolidated into the MPP's.  It sounds like a pain in the rear, but easier in the long run, IMO.

Both my friends Blackbeard and Vab are correct (of course!) but Vab may have misled you just a bit.  A lot of the older packs from the BSC indicate that they have been replaced by a Mega pack so there is no reason to d/l and install them.  That should save you a lot of work.  Have fun!

    Thanks for the replies!

I realize the RAM is not an issue with content size. i was going to increase my RAM for larger regions with more stuff on the screen. I'm not too worried either about my 200GB Hard Drive.

I guess I'll go about it from a building angle. I'll download the buildings/Objects I want and then go to the dependency packs as needed. That, or I'll go in reverse with the packs. After I initially posted I realized that downloading all at once would be hard without taking updates into consideration.

The best way to collect the BSC dependency packages is to take the MEGA packs - also CSX packs - and work back in date from there.

Don't be in a rush to download stuff you may not need.  Shotgunning a bunch of stuff could easilty get you into either dependency hell or conflict hades or both.  Only download dependencies when you need them, and be sure you test each and every thing you download, one-at-a-time, separately in a sandbox region.

I must respectively clarify what my friend about me misleading you a bit.  Please note she said *some* (well, actually, she said a lot but one word is easier to emphasize than two).  While she may be technically correct, installing haphazardly without regard to date may overwrite an "essential" file and then the queries don't work like they're supposed to.  And I'm pretty sure that some of Grampa Al's farms had props that may or may not have made it into a MPP.

However, I see we have the much more qualified than any of us, Ms. Barbyw, chiming in and she is the definitive answer regarding all things props.

Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that Windows XP can only handle 2GB of RAM. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

EDIT: I did here it, it was here.

I personally would suggest downloading dependancies as you need them, and making a list. And then you can check the list to see if you need any dependancies.
