I have yet ANOTHER map question.  *eye roll*  What does each square on the map represent? 10m^2?  Some other distance?

I have seen this number (16m) used several times but that can't be the case if 'scale' is to mean anything in this game.

By those numbers small, medium, & large cities are .63, 1.27, & 2.54 miles to a side.

A scale airport, factory complex, or sea port would easily take up a medium or large city by itself.

Does anybody know where this 16 meter figure came from?

My guess is that scale idoes not apply in this game.

It's to do with the scale when you are building in the BAT,  Want a building for a 1X1 lot.  It's 16x16.

Otherwise it's nothing really.  Scale is out in this.  Small stuff is oversized and large stuff is undersized basically.

I was looking into this because I see a lot of effort made to build scale maps, but that just doesn't matter. I think I'll have more fun continuing to think of this as a game instead of a "simulation" with true scale.

the definitive way to know is the following :

in SC4, hit CTRL-X to bring the cheat code box and enter terrainquery then use the query tool and it will display more information when you move the mouse over the terrain

you will see that a tile is 16 units

remember it is 16 units, and by unit I do not mean meter

so a small city, 65x65 pixels = 64x64 tiles = (64x16)x(64x16)  units

wouagagaine makes a very good point.  The idea that a tile is 16 x 16m is a convenience for people using modeling programs who need to have a scale.  Otherwise, think of it as 16 x 16 amorphous units and make of it what you will.
