Simtropiadevgame.jpg

Background
I was rather dissapointed with how SC4 (simcity 4) was laid out originally. Once again, the mayor had the duty of building and developing the city. Mayoys also had to layout utilities and services. This all seemed unreal and did not reflect how ture real life cities work. So how to fix it? well it's easy - just add an extra element to the game: developers. in real life, the mayor (and council) can approve/deny a road, service, building, and project from being placed in their city. The mayor really doesnt actually layout the roads, build buildings, or initiate a service in the city. That is the work of developers and other departments of city hall. For now, i will be focusing on the developers. This role can now be partially played out by "Simtropia Development" Teams!

Simtropia Development Game
Essentially, current BAT teams and indivisuals who create BAT/Projects can become their own development company. They can release their creations to the public as the norm now, or create a project/BATs for an individual user and their City Journal. This game and process adds the missing role of the developer in Simcity 4, and also creates another exciting multiplayer game.

Here is a basic rundown of the Simtropia Development game:

  • Each BAT (building Architect Tool) team will be an individual developemnt company.
  • A fictional company will be created with a proper name and fictional location.
  • Each team can have one or many employees (users), and will be assigned jobs
  • Teams will can develop/build projects and buildings independently or work with other users.
  • Creations like BAT's and Projects will can be available to the public or for one user and their CJ
  • Teams who work with CJ's to develop will be rewarded recieving by advertising rights and recognition
  • BAT's and projects that are available to public will simply be placed on STEX as usuall
  • Teams can compete with each other to see who builds the most, best qualit, and largest project.

It's simple, and also anyone can participate. As the game and teams mature over time, partnerships and leaders will emerge. The MP game can become a very large SimTropolis sub-community, and could also be a good oportunity to add more realism to simcity 4.

i will continure to edit this page as more ideas come to mind - please add a suggestion!

Note to mods: i didn't know were to post this thread, please move thread to appropriate place if needed 2.gif

I think City Life is geared to the development role much more closly than SC4...its too bad SC5 is not being developed...it would kinda cool if say we zone a 6x6 Residential area and choose from a list of buildings that fit the zoning critieria and the 'demand' and 'popularity' agree to the dev proposal kinda like reallife

..here in Portland devs wanted to building some mid-level condos and the neighborhood forced them to change plans and make it signifigantly shorter.

It would be cool to see sims reaction to your development plans. Maybe in the new version a system can be made with you as the developer...mayor zones area...you play developer and select a building for construction...sims vote to agree or they surprising offer a different building for placement...wouldn't that be cool? Then you can debate with the sims back and forth until agreement is reached (or have cheat code enabled and force it in!).

I love coffee and buildings.

Dang. Sounds more like SC5 than a multiplayer SC4 game. Or you could put the game into autodecide and the advisors will randomly pick something to grow. Kinda like now.

That would take too long. Unless we put BSC in a cage and threaten them with death.

This game probably could last as long as ST is up... it's not a multiplayer game like a region game or city game. Instead, we really would be doing the same functions like now, only particapants would take on the additional role as a fictional development company. The way we make BAT's and projects, would be the same as now. The only thing that would be added is the multiplayer aspect, even then, it's only between a dev team and a user and their CJ.

hm, sounds like fun. If I understand what your plan is, I would be interested in joining under the utilities team (I am a power-plant worker). I can't BAT, however...

    A few More Details

In order to make this progress going, we need MOD support. However, isnce it usually takes a while for that to happen, interested users who want to play will have to rely on each other to make initiative work. Really, it's not that difficult, we really only would be essentially doing the same stuff we are doing now. With the only exceptions of:

    • Participating would make their own "developemnt" company
    • Players and teams would make BATS/Projects for public or CJ Use
    • Players in teams would be like employees or workers
    • Developemnt companies would be part of UDI comitee

it'sreally simple, however, this whole process will have to be smoothed out.
