Streets and Simcopter... I have the CDs somewhere, and I periodically played those games until I got Windows XP last year. Sometimes you just get very very nostalgic.

The graphics in Streets of Simcity, as clumsy as they were, killed even a good system back then. I remember how much of a pain that was to run; even on my current machine's AMD Athlon processor the game could still slow down.

Lots of fun, though, lots of fun. I remember I was never a good driver and, given the racing slicks, I would damage them immediately.

I have it, and I enjoyed it. I ran it on a 2000-era computer without problem, but eventually I had my fill of the game. I only wish that they would do a nice updated version, that may be closer to an actual simulation than Carmageddon.

I have the game, but it's not installed on my computer since it won't run SC2K.

What's really a shame is that that game had some great music, none of which is directly harvestable out of the game files like in SC2/3/4 (except the background noise in the garage). If anyone knows where I can find mp3s of the game's music, it would be appreciated.

If I can get a copy of the game, I'll figure out a way to get the game's music out. If I can do it via line-in from the PSP, I can get Streets'. That's half the reason I want the game, lol.

I think I recall finding a directory in the program's files filled with (wav, aiff?) files of the commercials, possibly even the music too. Unfortunately, out of all the CDs I have ever owned, that is the ONE cd I've somehow managed to completely lose =[ I miss it so much. =[

it would just fit into the timetable, because another remake of one of my back-then favorites will be released next month, the settlers 2 - the next generation.

a full 3d remake of what the settlers 2 gave us back in '96 with a funny iso graphic.

same thing for all those cool mid-90s sim-x games like simcopter, streets of simcity would be wonderful...

People are missing the point, this thread is not to be nostalgic (although it is an awesome game) but for someone to send me, who technically owns the game, a copy of the CD file, over MSN or YouSendIt or whatever. Any takers? Note the emphasis on the "legally-owning" part.

I actually got Streets of Simcity to install this afternoon, and except for a weird color glitch, where the colors begin to look a bit out of place, it works fine.

Wrong... completely wrong.  If you've a good copy of the CD then you have the music.

Streets of Simcity's sound - both the music and the commercials - are in your standard WAV format.  I remember once burning the in-game music to CD so to listen to it without playing the game.  Because yes, a lot of it was great.  Especially the "Jazz" stuff (currently I am listening to this again, it's more of a 1970's style jazz-funk fusion) - although nothing experimental, it was great music to drive to.

The below screen shows where on the CD the music is, at least on my disc.

if this were remade, it would be nice if the driving model was heavily updated, no shift control reverse for automatic 180 and it should retain its carmageddon type stuff, but better graphics, ability to play in sim city 4 cities, and kill pedestrians!!!! w00t

It doesn't. And I didn't think game music was copyrighted unless it was the licensed type of music in EA's games; is this not the case?

Rips of music from lots of popular video games can be found all over the internet... Because lots of people enjoy listening to it while doing something other than paying the game. Hard to say whether or not it's legal, but the video game industry hasn't raised a stink about it, so if it isn't, they don't care much...

Actually . . . I posted a good link to a really good FTP-free online hoster of VG music over in the thread about it in this forum, actually, but have you heard that EA is now starting to sell some of their videogame music? The original stuff? I always figured it was legal because most of it is never even commercially-available, except for a lotta Japanese game soundtracks, many of which I own . . . Ninja Gaiden, GT4, Enthusia, etc. . . . yeah . . .

But yeah  whats the rules with this sort of situation? If you owned a game, then lose it, is your license for it still valid? I know with roms if you actually own the game they are okay.

i was in the same boat. i got a abandonware copy a while back, but i only played it like a day for nostalgia purposes..

SoSC doesnt work that good on newer computers. There are strange bugs(enemy cars bouncing around)....simcopter still works okay though....

i'm amazed at how this place has gone downhill (morally) in the  last couple of years, the lack of care and the lack of respect for copyright. who gives a damn what country doesn't have copyright laws. would it make you feel better stealing someone else's work?  Leaders my A**.  this place needs an overhaul.
