Building bridges between cities

In several regions I create for myself I've always ended up with cities completely separated by water. I've used ferries to connect them together, however many went over capacity. I've tried building highways to the edge of the map to get a bridge, but all I get is the red tile.

Any suggestions?

you cannot build a neighbor connection using a bridge. you can terraform a small strip of land on the edge of the map on each city and make the bridge end on that strip in each city. then you can connect the two cities using the island.

Yeah, the bridge thing did not work for me, although the powerlines can connect two regions even if they cannot see each other over the water.

You can change your city'sa square tiles by coloring the "config" file in SimCity 4 file , all blue.

lol, destroying the city.... thats a great idea... lets destroy the teletubbies while were at it.

But seriously, I wish there was away to build bridges to neighbor cities... sadly... Maxis wasnt thinking straight when they made this game.... As somebody said above... you could always make a peice of land to connect your road/avenue/highway/etc. to the neighboring city.

Inability to build bridges between different city tiles is something that map designers must seriously take into account when making the config.bmp. I have seen many nice-looking and well made maps (correct grades, depth of rivers and valleys etc) but with a very plain config.bmp, consisting only of large (blue) city tiles. Such maps are often not playable, it's not only the lack of the ability to build bridges, in such a configuration each city has only up to four neighbours, which limits the number of possible neighbour deals as well as the growth potential (through connections), as connections to the same city have a diminishing effect, and connections after the third have almost no effect.

You can also download Blahdy's Big Dig project from the STEX, or a simmilar item, and make an underwater tunnel.
