Joint venture by stronghold guys (firefly) and the civ team (firaxis)

Anyone else picked this up yet?

I played through a few cities in the campaign last night and found it very enjoyable. It's basically a 'modern' version of the caeser games with a few little twists.

It very much feels like simcity set in roman times, you build various differnt luxuries within a certain radius of peoples houses so that their houses upgrade an especially cool feature is when they upgrade to a certain level you can relocate them (stack) onto the top of shops (and possibly other buildings) who needs skyscrapers anyway 2.gif.

Anyone else played this and want to comment on it?

Edit: Just searched and realised there was a thread a while ago...oh well it was before release.

I watched the review on TV sometime back. I am a big fan of caesar 3, Rise of the Middle Kingdom, Pharaoh, Zeus, etc. I think the game is really promising with full 3d graphics and all. This game has been designed by Sid Meier, who has a history of churning out addictive game titles like CIV, Pirates, etc.

I cant wait to get my hands on this one.

yea ive been playin it. got to a level in the east, forgot the name. quite enjoyable even if its a tad repetitive. also the clicking bug is really annoying but hopfully a patch fixes that soon. i also find that the people arent traveling enough for stuff.  im hoping theres an easy way to increase the housing radius.

its not simcity: rome  but its not bad

I have  CivCity Rome and I think it is awesome. I see a few improvements that could've been made, but other than that I think it is an extremely fun and addicitng game!

I haven'[t played this.. I have Caesar III and Pharoah/Cleopatra.. THey are fun enough to play now and then.. CIII is buggy tho and makes me mad when it dumps my city I've worked on a long time... Pharoah tho seems fine.. I stillplay it occasionally. I'll have to take a look at CivCity:Rome sometime.. 4.gif .. I don't really care for Civ III tho.. I guess I just suck at it.. I never do very well and it ends up pissing me off ... 4.gif

Civ III was terrible. Worst one of the entire series. Civ4 is what CivIII was suppose to be. You shouldn't judge based on that piece of junk 4.gif

Hmm I'd have to say Civ3 is marginally better than Civ4, based on the depth of gameplay...

I am rather enjoying CivCity. I have had it for about a week now. Havnt had a huge amount of time to play it as I have been exstremely busy.

I will say alittle more about it as I play some more...and get a feel for the game. Though, first impressions...seems like a pretty solid game and some good details

It is a great game, when you take the time out to ply it, but the initial loading time kills me! Especially when you open the game for the very first time, and the anxiety to see if you bought a good game or a bad game...

Oh well, after that, the rest of the game runs very smoothly, and game saves are lightning fast.

I have exsperinced my first game crash.....during the campain missions....on the second mission of the city that has been devistated by disease...that you rebuild...I completed the mission and went though the brief for the next mission...when it went back to the city building sceen the game crashed.

has anyone else had this happen?

I am well past the high requirements for the game, my hardware and DirX software drivers are up to date. and background tasked are switched off... (I have a dedicated game profile)

so it must be an ingame issue.

Hmm, this game has yet to crash for me.

Its strange though, that it happened if your PC specs surpass the requirements, as my PC is just sitting on these requirements, and have yet to come by a system crash...

Sorry, can't help you out here.

I played the game too and yeah it's great. Let say if im a lil'bit bored playing my simcity, civcity:rome is a great alternative. The concept is about the same, but what really dissapoint me is that the developer doesnt include street-level view like citylife(although in citylife the streetview is somehow awful),but not this game. Everything is very much the same as the real roman times. It was a mistake not to include this feature or it would've set you off from simcity for good! =p

I've been umming and arring about getting this game when I get a job and I have my new computer (I have the Mobo and Pentium D chip sitting in my cupboard at present). By the sounds of everyone's comments it looks like it's going to get added to my shopping list.

And yes, it waits until the new computer. This one... let's say it groans with SimCity's bulk...
