Lets build a region together, shall we?

I am a man of few words, so here it is. Probably the best way to improve on the Sim City game play experience is to learn from other gamers. I want to learn from all of the amazing players here on Simtropolis. So why dont we build a city together? The purpose of this experiment to to put our minds together to build the most beautiful and highly functional city possible. We can vote on everything using the polls on this board, and I will build it and show the results. The only thing I am going to decide right now is that this will be on a grid, with only flat cities. We can add in water or canals, but for the most part, it will be flat. Sound good?

A few things to think about:

Region layout:
Do we want all large city tiles, all medium, all small, or a combination? Use pictures to show examples of your favorite region layout. (remember we are going for what will be the most funtional!
Grid style:
Do we want two sets of highways in each direction, more than that, or none at all. Do we want canals or all flat land?

Post your ideas so we can get started on what I think will be a great experiment.

I just found this region layout that I like. I dont know if it is any good though. This was posted by greyveil:

The small city in the middle is for shared industry. What do you think? Post your other layouts so we can vote!

I'm not sure. That one might work quite well for what I have planned. I want to create a region where in the center, there is a group of large cities surrounded by smaller ones. Inside these smaller cities are thousands of people but hardly any jobs. That's where the center city comes in. If I recall correctly, more traffic coming into a city will cause that city's Commercial Office demand to take flight, right?

What I had in mind was to have the large cities on the outer skirts of the region be filled with residents, then have highways from those cities connecting to the center of the region, where (somewhere) several cloverleafs and on/off ramps will send the commuters into the region's center core.

It's the best layout I can think of, and personally I think it will be quite functional with a large population (if the cities are placed correctly).

I got this idea after reading a tutorial about getting tons of CO$$ and CO$$$ development.

EEHHH?! My bad. Wait, are industrial cities needed to bring CO$$ and CO$$$ development into the neighboring city? Oh, I'm sorry. I'm thinking about the region the way I want it. I greatly apologize for that.

CO$$, CO$$$, and R$$$ in the center cities, CS$$, CS$$$, R$$, and I-HT in the surrounding cities, and R$, CS$, ID and IM in the outer cities. Oh, yeah! We could also put the power plants in the outer cities, make power connections, and sell power to the rich center cities! This will greatly reduce pollution from power plants. The rest is up to you guys! I might get a few more ideas as this goes on, but they're just ideas.

I don't know about you guys, but I loathe farms and the country side. Don't forget that they are the worst polluters in the game, so don't expect a successful farming city without spending thousands on water clean-up. Besides, I don't think they do much for other cities.

~I never start my region with farms. 3.gif

To build region together we would need at least:

    0. Region it self - attractive place to build with large variety of terain. Size should depend on the amount of players, but not more than 3 cities per player. Players should agree they all use the same version of SC.

    1. Set of Mods and custom buildings. The set should be unified for all players of the region.

    2. Quick server to download and upload our cities as and whole region.

    3. Conception of the region with major roads/rail roads prelayed to keep region united

    4. Major of the region to take care about its development trends...

please continue someone, as I should go back to by job 2.gif

I downloaded all of the Eastland Grand BATs (7), N.A.M., plop modd, uhh... and a bunch of other stuff. A lot of my cities now use subways, monorails, or both. Ground rail is hardly, if ever, used. I think my city should be connected with the others by a small city that has nothing but a highway link. That is, unless you can think of a way to MAKE my cities work with the others. They get very picky when it comes to space efficiency, and they don't like neighbor deals very much, unless it's exporting garbage. They also don't like low-wealth commercial services, dirty, or manufacturing industry. The only industry they like is high-tech. OH YEAH! I also downloaded the Sarah H. Bingham hospital and, if my city gets large enough, that hospital will be used.

My cities require a lot of care, eh? They're like a fragile plant.

    Hi, everyone-

I'd be happy to play deity-for-a-day and create a region for all of you to use complete with starter transportation networks. I would recommend that you not have a perfectly flat region for a couple of reasons I'd be happy to discuss if there was any interest. It would probably take a week or two to get it done. PM me if I could be of assistance.

I do think, echoing starrdarcy's comment, that this thread may be on the wrong topic- perhaps someone should ask a moderator where it should be moved.

Maybe my transportation modd can make the map view a bit more vibrant.

id like to do a residental $$ city with suburban areas and built up areas, but since i live in europe i have many europen mods (eg roads) will that be a problem?

I also have an idea for a region how about a large valley with high desity buildings on the edge and lower desity in the middle and one HUGE bridge crossing the valley like this one in france

    (an incredibly beautiful bridge)

Sure, I'd play. I don't think that the entire transport network should be layed out though. I think that each player should be given a couple of small and medium tiles, and maybe the team coordinator should lay out major transport on a mostly flat area. There hasen't been a new multiplayer in a while, so there will be no shoortage of members.

Theres lots of great regions there. Some configurations (cities sizes) need to be downloaded since the size is different than the standard ones.

And no matter how many brains there are here, I won't be easy to beat Maxisland.
