You Might get cancer from that tasty Grilled T-Bone steak

http://health.yahoo.com/news/121753

Or is it just fear mongering?

Mmmmm, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, tasty....25.gif

But really, what would be the point of grilling anything in the manner described? Isn't a little charring what makes it good? What really is the risk of these compounds compared to, say, the cholesterol in that steak?

^^^ That's the truth. There is always someone who is going to say something is bad for you. Six months from now another so-called expert will try to convince us that there is nothing wrong with grilling that way and, in fact, its actually good for you. I've pretty much given up on listening to most of the health related reports because someone else will usually come along with a different slant. Everything in moderation I say...

Cool! I'm going to have a T-Bone tomorrow for July 4th. I'll be sure to tell everyone that they are all going to die of cancer when they eat it. 41.gif

You have a higher chance of falling out of bed, breaking your neck and dying than you have of getting cancer from one grilled steak.  However, if you ate grilled steak all the time, then you may increase your risk.

Have you stopped eating fish because you may get Mercury poisoning?  How about the trace elements from the catalysts in bottles for bottled water?  At least one of them is a lead analogue, and you know what happened to the Romans, eh?

This kind of scare tactics gives me a large pain.

It is a medically proven fact that if any organic material is burned, and then consumed, it becomes a carconagen.

The important point here is BURNED. Nobody is going to get cancer from a properly prepared and cooked steak HOWEVER well cooked it might be ! You are more likely to derive some form of enteritis from an UNDER cooked steak

Yeah....I even heard that the "new car smell" can give ya cancer if you drive in your new car enough.....

I see it this way.....we will all have some form of cancer sooner or later....

I bet I get Lung Cancer and some kind of heart condition....

No..I'm not worried.....the heart thing runs in the family on my mom's side and the Lung cancer will probably be caused by myself...

oh i forgot...I might have a stroke before any of that type of cancer sets in....

So in the long run it is just probably fear mongering....

    Let's see...  This is a complete load of lots of things that I can't say in Simtropolis...

    <commence rant>

    I am really getting sick and tired of stories, headlines, and news reports with the "latest news" on the latest thing that's going to kill me...  Day after day after day after day...

    If they were to be believed, then I should have been killed by something a long time ago.  When I was two, the family took a car trip to Florida.  This was in 1978.  During the entire 2-day car trip, I spent the entire time either jumping up and down in the back seat of the car or tripping on the prescription-strength, codiene-enhanced cough syrup that my mother always brought on car trips "just in case" I got a sniffle.

    Somehow, I always got a sniffle, even when I didn't know it...

    Yet, I'm still alive.  A little brain-damaged, perhaps, but it does make life interesting.

    Mark my words, in 20 years, there will be people who will be walking around with 5 pillows strapped to various parts of their bodies and eating nothing but Muslix and soybeans in the hope that it might, perhaps, extend their lives for a few more years...

    I eat what I want.  I might not live as long as 100 years, but dagnabbit, I'm going to die happy.

    <rant concluded>

    As long as my steak was organically fed, I'm going to eat it. I don't care if it has char on it - that's what makes it taste great! It may be carcinogenic in high concentrations, but it's not like I'm going to get stomach cancer by eating a T-bone once in a while.

    I think looking out for the causes of cancer are a good thing but with these growing health scares you feel the only way to eat a non-cancer risk food is to not eat at all!
