depends if the zoning is medium or high density....to get Skyscrapers, you must zone high density housing and commercial.

Downtowns are usually commercial. That could be a very nice midtown. Continue expanding residential, and zone high density commerical in the central core of the city.

That looks good for a future city plan! Just make the residential hug the com zones, and move the industry to other city tiles. Do this with power supplies, garbage, ect. Basically anything that pollutes.

It provides some close jobs for those residents, thus lowering congestion on some of the roads and lowering commute times for those workers. This makes it ideal for the wealth of the commercial service to be similar to that of the wealth of the nearby residential.

In a large tile city I usually have 1 or 2 large commercial areas, then a bunch of residential and neighborhood commercial (I try to put this on the busy corners) scattered around. Plus, I usually have 2-4 Industrial areas...High-Tech is the only industry I use, so its vicinity to residential and commercial doesn't hurt desirability for those zones.

Just look around the city or neighborhood you live in.  Is there a convenience store, Wal-Mart, mall, car dealer or doctors office near.  This is what paperboy is refering to.  You need to have local businesses as well as major downtown businesses in order for a city to prosper.  After all who likes to commute to their job?

As it says in the Prima guide, "think strip malls".

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
