You have shown incredible potential for this program. I would never have the patience to take on a project like this! Good luck with it 9.gif

    @frndofyaweh:

    thank you, I've never really considered myself an artist.  but thanks for the compliemnts.

    @ defcon pilot:

    I don't know if I could be a 3d artist, I have gmax and 3ds max8 for almost a half a year, and i'm still completely lost, I almost cry because It is sooooooooo complicating.

    I'm basically self taught in these kinds of computer art programs(whatever it's called)  you know photoshoping, video editing, 2d flash,......

     but this is by far the easiest program to use, after going thru the tutorial(about 10mins long) I was using the program with ease.

    @kippis05

    thank you, just taking little bites, and getting all of the complicating stuff out of the way first.  then the rest will be easy.

    I have to watch someones house today and tommorow so i'll be building stuff up in the city.

    i'll probaly post more pics tonight.

    like a week, week and a half.

    about 15 hours all together.

    I had to start over because the original one was too complex and had too many polys.  and i'm doing this from scratch not knowing how to do it.

    Nice! I am in the process of making a city out of this SketchUp stuff. Guess you beat me to it though 3.gif! I was going to make a city journal out of it though 3.gif. I will include a link to this one with my CJ though.

    Well, I am making a journal, e.g., a log of dates and times. It is called Interstate405 in the City Journals section 4.gif.

    Jmjselect: See what the CJ forum moderators will say, but I think it would get more attention in the CJ forum.

    Might be a chore to move all of this, but then again you are just beginning to grow page numbers, on a city journal that will, surely grow plenty more page numbers.

    Neongamer: Actually both of you should post CJ's there.

    how would I get in contact with a cj mod? I asked another one(I don't know if he/she is a cj mod but he/she thought it was fine here.

    I dont want to piss any mods off, they're harse, my head has been chopped off like 5 times already. lol jk they're cool.

    also does anyone know where I could get some real world building measurements?  i've been playing with some buildings in the model and they seem to be off scale a little.

    The architecture office I work for uses Sketch-Up alongside other cad programs, and let me tell you, Sketch-Up is awesome.  We use the professional version which is even more powerful and is fairly inexpensive. The beautiful thing about it is how easy it is to use.  The Pro version comes with a sandbox tool that lets you triangulate contours for a nice smooth terrain.  I might reccommend a little more RAM than 512, though.

    Wahahah, that is great; The celtic cross is my favorite highway interchange. Though, I would wonder how easy it is to check the physics on that model? I'm guessing sketchup does the modeling but not physics testing?

    Anyway, very, very cool. I'd bet you could get paid very handsomely for this kind of thing ( though I'd bet you already are)

    I'll try my hand at it using my light stylus one of these days...

    Yes! Automoblies! I was hoping you would include those. I just can't imagine what this is going to look like a month from now.

    My eye is glued here  also.

    This is what Simtropolis can be more about. This great CJ proves my next point.

     The sims and SC4 are great games, but My opinion is, ST is generally about and for community, Sitizens, city planning, enviroments and evolving. Which are all sub-fields of Simtropolis, right?

    This also helps the community accept other games, such as, Spore and City Life.

    THis needs to be  a CJ In the general CJ forum, since City Journals are so varatious, there is almost nothing that cannot be included, as long as it is a journal, that follows the development of any kind of "City".

    I just read through this whole topic, and I have to say WOW! It's amazing what you can do for free; it's almost like it's too good to be true! But you've made it a reality, my friend, and I support this project 100%! I look forward to more, and yes, this should go in the CJ section; the CJ mods are MayorVieira, mayormommy, and ThatMonkeySim, so maybe you could send them a PM about getting this moved. Either way, I'll still come back for more!

    RiverCocytus - Technically, it's a Maltese cross, but I won't hold it against you. We in the biz just call it a "stack".

    well, that's a totally new way of using SketchUp! how do you convert those planar on-ramps into 3d pieces? i use sketchup pro and never figured it out... ** blushes as his ignorance is clearly shown to the public ** 41.gif

    great job jmj, truly awesome! glad i catched this topic from the beginning...

    owenluby, he's using Google SketchUp, an application which is intended to create 3D models of buildings (or whatever you want, actually) with ease and upload it onto Google Earth. You can download it from http://sketchup.google.com/download.html.

    jmjselect, sorry about answering it for you, i don't mean to disturb or something like that
