In the time, known as the "Golden Age" (2150-2255AD), Humanity began a large amount of astonishing discoveries. These discoveries were all inevitable, but the humans said it was all because of the the launching of one massive space shuttle, that shuttle was known as "Destiny". The shuttle Destiny was launched on March 22nd, 2150AD, from a central spaceport, floating in the center of the Gulf of Mexico. What would be discovered that day would change the world forever.

ShuttleLaunch.png

The Destiny came in contact with a massive flying disc-shaped spacecraft. It was a true sight to behold, and humanity was shocked and amazed when they finally got wind of it. The ship belonged to an alien race known as the Cretorians.

Contact.png

The Cretorians had developed vastly ahead of the Humans, technologically and mentally. The Cretorian Empire stretched throughout the universe, but they were limited severely by one thing, the hyper-gates. (Hyper-gates were large space stations that could send objects in-between any two of them almost instantly, but going anywhere without using hyper-gates could take decades. This crippled the Cretorian’s exploration efforts severely.) The Destiny had understood the Cretorian attempts at communication, for their language was a slightly complicated form of Latin, due to circumstances beyond thecomprehension of either race. The Cretorian Empire was a hugely successful race, but their emperor was quite short-tempered, making the whole civilization quite corrupt. The Humans and Cretorians had gotten along well, but as time progressed, they had an increasing number of disagreements, which lead to skirmishes and by year 2295, full-fledged war.

It seemed that there was little hope for Humanity. But one small city begged to differ.

Great start! I like the idea here of humanity standing up to odds stacked heavily against them. Will be very interesting to see where this goes. Keep up the good work!

The Cretorian Empire showed no mercy to the Humans. They used their vast ability of gravitational fields to send fireballs from the sky into the face of the Earth at full force. The planet which had taken billions of years to develop, was being torn apart in a matter of years. The world’s largest cities were destroyed. Tokyo was demolished, Rio was flattened, London was obliterated, Hong Kong was ripped apart, and New York was bombarded to the point where no building over two stories tall still stood.

The Humans struggled to keep up, for the Cretorians were destroying their weapons quicker than they could be manufactured. Nuclear weapons had little effect; the Cretorian home world was a planet bathed in radiation, and their ships were virtually indestructible. After only two years of fighting, Earth’s population was half of what it was before. But Humanity refused to admit defeat, and fought bravely, with little effect. It was after four years of ruthless war that the Humans realized what they had to do. They could not fight, their only option was to hide. The Human race headed to the only place that was safe, below ground. But they knew they would not be safe for long.

Nice story! (But hey, this is the second CJ in a row where I can't see the pictures...hmmm... (at least in your second post that is)) Well, whether it's me or not the narrative is highly entertaining!

I see 'em!  44.gif Nice way to incorporate the disasters!

Your next challenge: show us underground cities!...j/k!! I'm sure everything is going to work finely around your narrative! 10.gif

Interesting, though... Why would the hypergates impair their ability to traverse the stars? If the hypergates can move things faster, how would that be limiting them?

    Keep it up. 4.gif

I think it would limit them because they wouldn't have lots of them, like millions in every square inch of the universe. This looks very interesting, I'd suggest the STEX. TopCliff

Still working, hope to have another update by later today. In response to defcon pilot: The hyper-gates have to be towed somewhere to actually be used, (remember, they can only send ships between two of them, not to any point in the universe) and that could take hundreds of (Earth) years, since no technology was available to transport ships large distances without hyper-gates, (the average Cretorian ship flew at 99.9% of light speed) but once the hyper-gate is established at a certain point, and linked with another hyper-gate, it can transport the ship/object between the two instantly.

ex. hypergateA<-------------100 light years in between--------->hypergateB

After hypergateB was towed that 100 light years by another ship, any other ship could be transported between the two instantly.

    ex2. PointA<-----------------100 light years in between-------------------->PointB

A ship would have to fly on its own for 100 years to reach PointB if it was not linked to PointA by a Hyper-gate, so if you haven't explored it, it would take a while to get there.

    (Hence the crippled exploration efforts.)

Hopefully that will eliminate the confusion. Just PM me on forum or in chat if you have further questions.

The underground empire was ironically successful. The Cretorian weapons could not reach far underground, and what did reach the cities did very little damage. The cities were built in small, muddy, dome-shaped bubbles with a top of 50 meters below sea level, and a bottom of 200 meters below sea level, and were interconnected by an elaborate system of what would once have been called "subways". The sanctuary of the underground allowed the civilizations to grow, and prosper.

    CityUnderground.png

The Earth population slowly grew, and overall morale rose as well. The humans realized that if their weapons had no effect, then they would simply need to research new ones. Highly complex research centers were constructed.

    ResearchUnderground.png

As research was undergone, massively successful weaponry was invented. The beam weapon, the mass drivers, and the light-powered harpoon were but the first of the discoveries. When the breakthrough arose, Humanity gleamed over its newfound invention. The Humans had developed the hyper-drive. The hyper-drive worked on the same basis as the hyper-gates, but was smaller and was based on a single point system, allowing hundred light-year journeys to be accomplished in mere weeks, without using hyper-gates. Shortly after the discovery, the Cretorian ultimatum arrived:

"Surrender to us, or your atmosphere will be ignited. Do not attempt to attack us, for the procedure has already begun, and only we can reverse it. You have one Earth week to respond."

    (To be continued...)

The Humans reacted quickly. They gathered the technology they needed, and headed for the one place they knew was safe, Tau Ceti Prime. A few nations of the world had known about a single planet, Tau Ceti Prime, which had been suitable for life, but refused to release it to the public, to prevent mass panic. Now, they felt that if any more panic was possible, why the heck not let it loose. The nations gathered together in one central location, under the area once known as “Australia”. The Humans constructed five colony ships, each one named after the nation that had designed and built it, The Honshu, The Westminster, The Manhattan, The Siberia, and The Barcelona.

    LaunchEdit.png

Each ship was designed to be quite small, but once in orbit, could deploy modules that were held in the hold, using advanced compression technology. Once deployed the colony modules could teleport hundreds of millions of people onto the ships. It was unknown to the Humans that such advanced teleportation could cause somewhat painful long-term physical damage. There were decoy spaceports constructed across a large area, which lured the Cretorian invasion fleet away from the main spaceports by launching shuttle-shaped objects from the underground cities.

    (decoys)

    Firstattemptdestroyed2.png

The colony ships launched at the same time, (shortly after a large hole was blasted in the roof of the underground city so that they could access the outside world).  The ships launched without problems, but shortly after launch, the ships came in contact with a Cretorian ship, a scout that relayed information to the blockade that orbited the planet.

    Blockade.png

The colony ships seemed to have a dim future.

    (To be continued...)

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone, I really appreciate it.
