Help Would Be Appreciated....

Well I enjoy this game alot, and I look at all of your City Journals and see all of your downloaded material.  Well I have tried many times and whenever I go into play the game I put the downloaded object somewhere and it doesn't work, it just looks like grass or something.   Why?  I would appreciate it if anyone would help me.

• A: check your in game graphic settings...make sure they are not set to minimium, if you used the official updates, they reset them to minimium on you, greatly reducing the detail in the game
• when using custom content on the STEX, make sure you check for a readme file, as most of the lots now require dependancies (other files you may heave to download seperately to make the lot appear correctly)
• Grab the SC4Tool program (found in the Modds and download section ), this is a viewer (and editor) program that will allow you to view custom content, and may tell you if you if you have the required dependancies already installed in your game (well about 90% of the time it will, once in a while it will give you "unknown", but its th best you can do..
• if you are having troubles with a particular lot, you can always ask on the boards , just include the name of the file and hopefully the maker...and one of the other memeer maybe ale to help you figure it out

when you download most lots from the STEX, you'll see a list of dependencies. dependencies are files that the lot uses, but the owner couldn't put them in his own package because he didn't create them.

also, almost 99% of the lots here are meant for Rush Hour. so if you're still using plain old regular SimCity, i suggest buying Rush Hour.

Well the only graphical setting I have on minimum right now is the....Number of Cars per sims...Is that correct? The one that controls the amount of cars on the roads. Could you also tell me where the SC4Tool Program is. I will look for it, but that would be nice if you could help me also. I have the Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition which comes with Rush Hour....Thanks for the help Tolomar and Prince of Sims..

do you have all the updates from simcity.com? you need at the least the EP1 update and the buildings as props files, see my sig

Today I tried downloading some stuff like.....A parking lot and a grocery store. None of them worked. When I downloaded the parking lots but there were 2 dependencies that I was supposed to download and I did.....I don't know if I downloaded them right but.. I went to play the game and the parking lots weren't in the game Arghh!! So I tried the Grocery Store and it didn't work either! I guess I need some sort of school to go to so I can learn how to do this...haha.....Do I not have something downloaded that I should.......You know....I wish that someone could just tell me what they have downloaded to make these props and stuff work. Or maybe even walk me through the process.

It would help to identify the problem(s) if you specify exactly which lots you are having problems with, but more often than not its due to missing props (dependancies).

You MUST read the readme file that comes with the download, it should list all the dependancies.

You must realize by now that these downloads come in as archives.  What do you do with them when you get them?

Well I have downloaded some props and other stuff now but I have one more question.

For some files like....one of Jeronij's diagonal walls I have to download some parts but I can't because my computer won't let me open .DAT files.....What should I do about this?

Well, I would suggest that you check your menus once again. It's got to be somewhere. Check the 'Landmarks' section. Thats where the Grocery Store would have probably stayed.

And also, make sure you have the 'Ploppable' BAT inserted in the Plugins folder. If you placed a 'Growable' BAT instead, then you won't find them in the Game Menus. It will grow as soon as it has achieved the right conditions. I guess the Readme file would have cleared that though.

And about Jeroni's Diagonal Walls, You have to move the .DAT files into your Plugins Folder too. You don't have to open them. All .SC4(Model/Desc/Lot) files and .DAT files that you find in a .ZIP has to be placed in the Plugins Folder.
