Strange yellow lines anomaly

Hi, I've had this problem for a long time , but now that I am getting better in building cities it is really starting to annoy me.

I'm running deluxe with the latest patches (nighlighting and update 1 for deluxe).

I also old the same problem before I upgraded my computer from a geforce2 gts to a geforce 6600(which I currently have).

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (French)

CPU: AMD sempron 2500+

Memory: 1024mb / DDR-400

Video card: Nvidia Geforce 6600 256mb

Picture: http://img327.imageshack.us/my.php?image=strangebug1jd.jpg

(and no those seems not to be contour lines, those lines become red when I move around in city view when there is an enemergency. Basically the edge lines, yellow on pause or red on emergency, seems to "burn" on the picture). I used the keys to disable contour lines and it didn't remove that problem.

Note: it's an old problem i've had for a long time, so there's no recently installed mod to speak of. In fact I haven't installed any since like december 2005. I had the same problem with a geforce2 gts as I said above. The only way to solve the problem is to set "visual effects" to low quality, but then I can't see anything when I zone(because the purple highlight you see when you map zones/place landmarks is a medium quality "visual effect" apparently). So basically it's an unaceptable tradeoff between seeing those annoying lines or not seeing smoke/fire/and highlight when you build roads/map zones...)

Ugh!  That sucks.  Well, there are several things I can think of off hand.

  1. Did you run DXDIAG?  You should run this test on your graphics gear.  You have DirectX 9.0c

  2. Do you have the correct drivers?
  3. If any are on, turn off all options on the graphics card.
  4. Does this happen if you run with software rendering?

Are the lines burning on the base of the lots? If so, I think some textures are missing. If you try and trace back to the download entry of the building concerned, it might have dependancies you may need to download. It happened to me before.

Welcome to the community. I hope you will enjoy your stay.

Ok, we can rule out plugins. I renamed both plugins folders (the one in SC4 folder and the one in /$documents/$user/) and it didn't solve the problem.

I have the same issue also. The similarities between you and me are thus: I am also running an NVIDIA card on an AMD machine, although my stuff is a bit older- 6200 w/ 256MB and a 1.4GHz AMD Athlon. Memory is the same; Windows same except mine is not French (c'est la vie- personne n'est parfait - and that is the extent of my butchered high school French Je parle Fran

Ahh, damnit. I got the same problem. I don't remember when it started or what I did before. The game ran well for quite some time then it started to behave like you show there. I forgot about it as I worked on my GNU/Linux system and didn't play simcity for some time now. I, too, have an AMD processor and a NVIDIA card. Anyone found any solution yet? I'll play around with it on the weekend, guess I'm sure to be able to find a solution if there doesn't exist one yet.

I have what seems to be a minor version of the same problem. I can usually just scroll it out of my view and it will go away.

Yes, that is what I just do- scroll it out of the way.

The curious thing is that if I am traversing diagonally, that is, my cursor is in one of the corners of the screen thereby forcing the view to move diagonally, that is when I get the yellow lines.  If I am traveling horizontally or vertically, they do not appear...

I beleive it is caused by Anti Alaising being turned on in your nvidia options (when you right click on the desktop, go settings then advanced and nvidia 6600) if you go in there there should be a section called performance and quality settings, if you scroll down untill you find anti alaising and turn it to "application controlled" it should stop the problem, i had the problem a while back and it is due to anti alaising being turned on,

    hope ive helped!
