UPDATE 71!!

SAN PORTELLO MAIN STORY ACT II

71.1 - SAN FERNANDES

Ah; I remember it very well, the day Eddie Porablos escaped from Alcatraz... It seems like it was only yesterday.  Oh please forgive my rudeness; My name is Al Cappichino, and you may remeber me from the hiests and works that made the Mafia what it is today.

71.2 - SAN FERNANDES TRANSPORT MAP

Anyway, it was a day like today; sunny, high tide and no commercail traffic anywhere to be seen or heard of in the bay.  It was a Saturday I suppose? One of those on-shore business days where the library used to get stocked up with the finest books from here all the way to Georgetown.

Eddie, after only being in the joint for a year comes up to me and tells me he found this here Transport Map of San Fernandes, so I say: "So?"

And he says: "The current is poor tomorrow Don, I'm buying me a ticket out of here."

And I ask him: "Why would you do that for Mr P? The food here is delicious and you get treated with respect, out there the game stakes are high and a few of my key men are wantin' to pop you 'cause they think you were down with the Traids on this whole busting me in jail thing..."

And he turns around and says: "The local beef in cell block five says that the Greens are into this company called Shingdu, and with that kind of money they'd buy me a new life."

"But E," I replies to him. "The Greens are all the way in Ventura; that has gotta be at least three day's drive or more... Three days worth of enemies and guys that want to bury you, you get what I'm sayin'?"

E don't care, he wants out too much.

71.3 - ROUTE OF ESCAPE

So he takes this map, see, and he draws out a couple of lines down on the roads and talking like a real pro; He has the whole system cracked in a few minutes before I could even understand a word what he was saying.  And as it turns out, he was gonna' take a bus the whole way there.

"What about Uncle Sam?" I ask him.

"Uncle Sam ain't the problem," He says to me. "I have some good connections with the drill seargent down at Fort Dale; he could sneak me past the security and hitch me a couple of rides to and from that hotel I told you about.  The only trouble I have is with the Jolly Roger, but with this plan I can avoid them."

The Jolly Roger, as it turned out, was the navy.

71.4 - THE I-43 AND HIGHWAY 145

Then he tells me about the I-43; this big Interstate that joins up with the I-35 some where down near Ventura, and then mentions H-145... He told me he'd have to avoid one of them becuase the Jolly Rodger has supplies and thugs on those roads that would be looking for his face.

He says to me: "That dual-carriageway is the best bet for me to start," He explains. "No man thinks on those things; too much traffic and cars, and it goes straight to the hotel."

I nodded respectfully. "When do you plan on breaking out?"

"Tonight."

71.5 - THE HOTEL

So, as you know, E escapes but you catch me before I could break; so here I am being a witness into finding him for you in exchange for an early porale.  By the way; in case you didn't know E's story, let me summarise it for you:

E got into the Mafia a while back when some of his Green Boys got into the ring, helped me escape and distract the cops whilst I made a break for this wonderful city.  As a nice gesture of faith and good will E springs up a massive riot, keeping all the cops and Feds off my tail for a little while longer.  But, I find myself in the wrong hands, and get sent to this bug hole thanks to those damn Triads.

E meanwhile has trouble of his own and soon every gangster except for the Greens want a piece of his meat as revenge on what happened to Los Porablos, so he comes here and makes a good living until some one sets him up and throws him in here.  Summarised enough for you?

Good.

71.6 - THE MOVE

So you tell me that he got out and you can't find him? Good for him.  I hear he took the H-145 after he stopped at that hotel, made a break on some bus full of civilised Simmities.

Interrigator nods.

71.7 - THE MOVE CONTINUES

Across a lot of counties too? Did he get to see that favourite spot of mine on the Highway with all those fancy billboards?

Interrigator nods again.

I pocketed my first killin' up there; some Traid stole my car and kidnapped my daughter, so me and the boys go up to where he said he'd meet us and we fried them all after we got what we came for... I always wanted Ed to see that place; it's sacred you know?

71.8 - THE MOVE STILL CONTINUES

There is some good eatin' up there too; a man could raise a few cows and he could feed a family for years; my Uncle Salirarei made a hnadsome profit selling beef to some corporate banker who liked to call himself Gascooker.  Good times they were, good times.

71.9 - PASSING JUNON PLAIN

Then he went through Junon? Lucky kid; I haven't seen that little town in years, not since I became the don, or sincle my Uncle finally got whacked.  E's bus decided to break down near there too? Where around did it come to a stop?

71.10 - GETTING OFF AT HARRIET'S HILL

They finally got off and fixed up around Harriet's Hill? Oh; just a Harriet's Hill... Good, that town is bad, it is full of Jolly Roger and Uncle Sam that would not take kindly to a fugutive like EP.

71.11 - UNION FLATS

That is excellent; EP would have been safe at Union Flats for the night; nice Inns and Country Houses up around that area, and not far from the Bus Repair station.  I have to assume the bus continued towards Fort Dale? No? He caught another that was going to Fort Dale?

71.12 - FORT DALE

Fort Dale is a large place; well, not compared to some of the complexes I have heard of but it is significantly larger than the base at Los Porablos I can tell you.  He stopped there for a day or two to get some rest and supplies? Sounds like E.

71.13 - FORT DALE AND EDDIE PORABLOS

Around that time you described I recieved a call for E telling me how far he had got...

"Hey Don." He said.

"Hey E, how is it going?" I replied.

"Everything is going to plan," He said. "I am at the base now, will be leaving tomorrow.  Anything to tell our boy?"

At this moment in time I had recieved a letter from my son in law entitling me to the truth about our asailant that put me in jail. "Ask him if he'd mind killing you for me." E was panicing now. "I heard what you did, and I'm gonna' make sure it is your head that comes on a serving plate tonight! Do you hear me you snitch! YOUR HEAD!" That is when E hung up.

71.14 - FORT DALE AND LADY LUCK

It just so happened that E was able to catch a ride on the next bus after a day of the hardship, and by that time the whole base was out looking for him and mistakingly our friend at the base forgot to retrieve his fake ID, and sure enough, E escaped without a scratch.  Thankfully our boy was after that mishap.

71.15 - MY FRIEND UNCLE SAM

Of course, Uncle Sam was now so determined to find E every bus from then on was stopped without question, and E didn't have a chance, well... Until he decided to go on foot to some place not even I know of...

71.16 - A THIEF UNTIL DEATH

Being a good robber as he was, E was able to hijack and steal a truck from a field site? That is the lowest of the low, and I expect he got through to Ventura? No? What happened?

71.17 - THE NEW ROUTE

E is definetly determined, and I am not surprised when you say I went all the way back up to the bus service station and abandoned the truck...

71.18 - FINDING PORABLOS

A state-wide search for him and you only came back with rare sightings? He was on a bus for at least two more days going down the I-43!

71.19 - TO TRAVEL THE H-145

Eddie Porablos is on his way to make his richest fortune yet...

71.20 - EVERY BUS, EVERY JOURNEY

No bus driver ever recorded seeing a man like Eddie Porablos... Instead they remember seeing another nutorious but mistaken criminal by the name of Dr.Vu...

71.21 - TO CROSSETH EVERY BRIDGE

What does this mean? Is Eddie Dr.Vu, or is Dr.Vu in league with Eddie? Dr.Vu once said: "When you cross a bridge, your newer life begins..." Did he mean that literally?

I'd like this finish so I can start the Vegas Strip; I'm going back and revamping every casino I BATed to date, and hopefully with some extra time I can play a bit of my CJ to give you some more views...

UPDATE 72
A POLICE DETECTIVE AND HIS COUNTRY

Dear diary,

It has been a long time since three everlasting events struck San Portello cold and hard; The Revolution of the Republic, the attack of Hurricane Carl, and the collapse of the ecomonic market for the entire country, and I feel a forth and far worse event coming on the horizon.

It just isn't happening.


72.1 - Los Porablos, SP

*RINNNGGG!*

"Hello?"

"It's Leutainant Marcus..."

"Leu?" I answered as I sat up from my bed. "It's four thirty in the morning; shouldn't you be sleeping?"

"No time for explanation," Marcus replied. "Can you meet me at LPX in six hours?"

"Are you going somewhere?"

"Yes," Marcus replied. "We're going somewhere."

"But..."

"...This is very important Draysee," Marcus interupted. "Everything you will ever need from the department will be in this appointment; money, promotion, wife, children, happy home... etc. Just get your necessities, lock the apartment up tight, and get down to LPX for half ten."

Route planner... Route planner... AH HA!


72.2 - Plan your route...

Necessities... Lock apartment up tight... Oh bugger I haven't got my keys! There they are! Locked... Get to car... Drive off towards the freeway...


72.3 - Leaving home...

*BUZZ!*
 
Handsfree goes off. "...Draysee?"

"It's Mike!" Mike replied. "Did you get the message?"

"From Leu?"

"Yeah," He replied. "What does he want with us and a trip from LPX; that place isn't even open yet!"

"They're running test runs for the first and third terminals," I replied. "The services already have flying rights on the two runways that are ready anyway.  What do you think the job is?"

"I have no idea..."

"Where are you at the moment?"

"Beverly Heights," He replied. "I am just packing some of my uniforms in case it is a promotional shing-dig; I totally forgot that Samantha had my stuff..."


72.4 - Mike picks up his stuff...

"At the next intersection, turn right..."


72.5 - You gotta be kidding..."

"You have to be joking!"

*HORN HONKS*

"What is the big hold up?" I looked at my watch. "I'm late for crying out loud!"


72.6 - FBI Agents, Undercover Operatives and some other Police Detectives from across Los Porablos join them in the mist of traffic, before all sitting down in a hotel to wait for thier private jets to be serviced, fuelled and set up ready to departure.

"What on Earth is this about anyway?" I asked Leu. "There are a lot of names here..."

"I don't know myself Draysee," Leu replied. "Just sit back and relax and wait until we reach our destination."

Something big is going to happen... What are we getting ourselves into?


72.7 - The jets are ready by the morning...

The monitors in the back of the seats switch on, before one FBI agent stood up with a camera in his face.

"Good morning everyone," The agent greeted. "Thank you all for coming on such short notice and in such ample time with so little information, we required the best of the best, and here we have some of the best in San Portello."

I looked at Leu, and he looked at me. "This could be very serious?" 

"Our current situation calls for a gathering within one of most secret locations in San Portello," The agent continued. "We are gathering groups like these from every major city within the country; Gerorgetown, Neyorka, *CLASSIFIED*, Fernandes and Ventura.  The location for the gathering will be in San Fernandes, and the meeting itself will be held in a location which will be revealed later on in time."

Leu raised his hand. "What situation is this regarding?"

The agent smiled. "Civil war."


72.8 - The jets leave before daybreak...

Civil War? How? Who against who?

The agent stood up to speak again. "The civil war we are dealing with is already beginning to escale into proportions greater than we could imagine," The agent explained. "Every major city has sucessfully kept the drama and unrust under wraps, but that isn't going to stay around forever..."

Another agent stood with him. "This operation in particular is to silence sources of the unrest," The new agent explained. "Particulary people and figures of interest on our part... And those that influce organised crime."

"Particulary the Mafia," The old agent added. "They alone have been able to destroy the economy of this whole country through a national corporation. Who knows what they are planning next to shut us down."

"Us?" I asked.

The new agent nodded. "The Organised Crime rings no longer fight and quarrel amoungst themselves," He pronounced. "We are seeing a unifaction emerging; an alliance.  There hasn't been a single gang-related shooting in three weeks, and there hasn't been a single gangmember on the street since a month."

"Holy god..." I answered in shock.

"It gets worse," The old agent continued. "Every governmental corporation capable of inducing power have begun to use it to thier own advantage, and on top of that they have begun to unify under the civil service and government; they continue to operate on que, but thier outgoings and oncomings have been oddly large and small relativly for the past few weeks.  It was as if they too were planning something big."

"We don't know what is happening," The new agent confessed. "But the host of the meeting does, and he shall breif us with our first tactical assignment."


72.9 - LPX revitalised...

The agents sat down, inducing a discussion.


72.10 - LPX from the Region...

We must get to San Fernandes...


72.11 - San Fernandes complete...

What is going on? This is getting far too weird...


72.12 - San Fernandes municipal...

"What is going on Leutainant?" I asked him as we walked the concourse. "This is far deeper than we could have imagined!"

"I know," Leu replied. "Let's just get to this meeting and find out what the heck is going on."

"We find a hotel first..." Mike interrupted. 

"What for?" Leu replied. "We go to the meeting and get breifed? Why waste two hours... Oh?"

"Yep," Mike answered. "This is the best transportation system in the world; we go to a hotel, drop off our things and attend."


72.13 - Catch the EL...


72.14 - Book a room near the new Transamerican Pyramid...


72.15 - Oddly enough, it was the new FBI building...

We entered expecting to be tagged or searched, but instead we were placed inside a great hall full of these elite servicemen and woman.  All were like us; they didn't know what to expect or where to start, but an agent sitting at the front of the hall stood and faced everyone.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," The agent greeted. "Thank you all for attenting this first meeting for the Criminal Intelligence Corporation; the CIC...


72.16 - The CIC?

"As of half seven in the morning two nights ago," The agent began. "The very dangerous and curroptive criminal Eddie Porablos has escaped from Alcatraz Island, and is planning to visit Las Ventura on a trip which will mean disaster for the entire Country." The agent sighed. "As you are all aware the cities of San Portello are in a serious state of unrest; the crime rates and forcasts have dropped to a staggering low in a few weeks, and the major governmental corporations are threatening Recission."

The hall filled with an outburst of horror and shock.

"It isn't clear why," The agent continued. "But if the situation continues to fall like this; there will be no governmental protective force for anyone if this new trend evolves into a serious conflict against the commoners and criminals of San Portello." The agent showed everyone an image of Eddie Porablos. "This man is wanted by both sides for his crimes, and if he continues on his present course, all hell will break loose simply becuase of the proximity to all sides of the equation...

...Simply put Ladies and Gentlemen, he his running the navy, the air force, the army and half of the organised crime community into a bottleneck which will end up in our very own Las Ventura with disastrous results."


72.17 - Porablos the Warmongerer...

"The last sighting, which was just over an hour ago," The agent began. "Places him here."

 
72.18 - Fort Dale...

"Fort Dale." The agent sighed. "The whole base has been sent out looking for him, and will refuse to come back until they have his corpse."

 
72.19 - Fort Dale town...

"The town of Fort Dale has seen the largest business on record," The agent continued. "At the cost of some lives; some gang members and army patrol vehicles were placed in a confrontation after both nearly captured Porablos."

 
72.20 - Skyfire Plateau...

"The fugitive continued his escapade," The agent announced. "This time an entire community was nearly wiped off the map after a larger confrontation in the nearest town.  The two sides have found larger reasons to hurt each other, and the countryside is slowly falling into choas thanks to Eddie Porablos."


72.21 - The Highway is empty...

"The interstate alone which used to ferry thousands of commuters and freight a day has now suddenly emptied in favour of faster and safer alternatives," The agent added. "The countryside is falling into dissary and people are fleeing in thier thousands to hide from the chaos that is unfolding.  The regular army and navy rejects all claims but we have the facts...

...We need Porablos to end this insurging battle.  The minute the front hits a city; the front hits all of the cities.  The cities can control this outbreak with haste and ease, but the minute a city is it; it is over.  Welcome to the next age of tyranny and destruction."

"We have a fix on all possible routes Porablos will probably take to reach Ventura:"



 




72.22 - He arrived at a station in the same hour, and is planning to either leave by train, freight, taxi or await a night bus...

"We need all the help we can get right now," The agent admitted. "We have been able to stall everything capable of transporting Porablos to Ventura, but we still need to get there before him.  What else is there at our disposal apart from automobiles?"


72.23 - The bridge of hope...

"We aim to have another route in mind," The agent began to think. "A bridge never used by civilians but heavily used by the Navy, so it would seem logical to use it to our best advantage. The strike force in hand will have to use this bridge to recieve any hope of catching or arriving in Ventura before Porablos."


72.24 - The Navy...

"The Navy has a vast range of weaponry at thier disposal," The agent confirmed. "We aim not to annoy them so it would be best to imitate a cargo vehicle of some kind to get the strike force through a possible blockade.  If all else fails, we'll use our second option of attack."

"Attack sir?" One person asked in question.

"Yes," The agent replied. "With the correct amount of force and surprise, we'll move past them undetected and silenced before the base even realised we existed." 


72.25 - The Navy City...

"The only trouble is," The agent interrupted. "Santa Neyorka is the Naval Institution one should not contend with; if the Navy as a collective hears of thier brothers' plight, then they'll send everything they have out to reinforce every city, river and lake against anything that opposes them.  Especially the army.  Neyorka is in close proximity to Porablos, and most of the Army and Gang terrority resides in that location; a sinlge mishap could doom the city full stop."

"We need the time and money to stop this atrocity from happening," One agent began from the side. "Every team is out to catch a singular leader of this stupid set up, and the single task force that is going to stop Porablos is the main contender of this chess board.  That'll be the Los Porablos grouping."


72.26 - Ventura is coming...

"Las Ventura lies in your hands people!" The first agent shouted. "Don't screw it up; every city will fall if she falls.  Briefing in your relative task force assemblies."

Dismissed.
